This should be a bargain.

Tribune Co. has hired investment bankers to advise the media company on the potential sale of its newspaper publishing unit.

The company announced that it has retained JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Evercore Partners to assess whether to sell the division that includes the Los Angeles Times, Chicago Tribune and six other daily newspapers.

The laugh line is that they’re pretending that there is a lot of interest. From the 1940s, apparently. The Sunday LA Times, which I enjoyed reading in a past I barely remember, is expensive and so thin you can read another newspaper through it in the right light.

Stephen Kruiser is a professional comedian and writer who has also been a conservative political activist for over two decades. A co-founder of the first Los Angeles Tea Party, Kruiser often speaks to grassroots groups around America and has had the great honor of traveling around the world entertaining U.S. troops.

I used to live just a few doors away from the Tribune building in downtown Chicago. As a youngster, I remember being very impressed with the chunks of stone from famous buildings all over the world embedded in its facade. (Now I wonder how they got those pieces in the first place. Hmmm...) Before the Internet existed as such, on occasion I'd stop in the lobby to buy a paper.

The Chicago Tribune used to be considered fairly conservative, back in the day, though that was before my time. As long as I can remember, they've pretty much been leftist. Even people who hated the political slant often bought it anyway for the classified ads. Craigslist and Ebay have effectively killed that.

The Tribune sure was in bed with the Clinton Administration and were among the cheerleaders for their ill-advised wars on behalf of the Muslims in the Balkans. That's left us with a dangerous jihadi stronghold there, which serves as a recruiting and staging point for jihadi activity all over the world.

I left Chicago quite some time ago, and I hardly ever bother to visit the Trib website. I'd say their paper is just about as bad as the Cubs.
