Biden said that it was important for the media to dissuade the American public from the idea that the Obama administration was prepared to do something unconstitutional on guns.
“To be very blunt with you, we’re counting on all of you, the legitimate news media to cover these discussions because the truth is that times have changed,” Biden added, warning that people would continue to “misrepresent” the White House’s plans for gun control.
“The social media that exists out there, the tragedies that have occurred, the Supreme Court decision affirming that its an individual right to bear arms – all give a lie to the argument that what we’re trying to do is somehow unconstitutional, or somehow goes after the legitimate right to own and bear arms and to hunt and protect yourselves,” Biden added.
What’s chilling about this is Biden’s division of media between “legitimate” and, presumably, illegitimate. It’s not the administration’s call to decide which media are and are not legitimate. The Obama administration doesn’t even treat the most popular news network on cable, Fox, as legitimate. It only treats the bootlickers at the alphabet networks as legitimate along with the usual liberal media suspects. Those happen to be the outlets that almost never criticize Obama for any reason. They’re also the least informed on firearms, and the least likely to report fairly about what the Obama regime is really up to.

It isn’t an exaggeration at all to say that our government wishes it was the USSR, and not much of an exaggeration to say that those wishes are reality.

Generally, when “legitimate” is the word immediately preceding just about any thing at all, it implies that the “others” are illegitimate.
While our current president apparently is not literally a “bastard”, he certainly seems illegitimate, even if elected by that 53%.
When the mafia dons speak about “legitimate” businesses, they are talking about laundering money through a “front” for their illicit dealings.
When a leftist talks about “legitimate media” he is talking about laundering facts through a “front” organization to cover up the true intent of their illicit power grabs and unconstitutional behavior.
In order to become “made media” you have to do a hit piece on some innocent non-leftist.
NBC has started their own family. George “kapo de tutti frutti kapos” Soros has his own family. The New York Outfit Times is the don of record in the Big Apple.
WaPo the CaPo of DC and CNN runs Atlanta.
In five years the Cronyonly family is going to be “completely legitimate”. They will all be state run and will simply cut out the middle man pretense.

Only in a technical legal sense, perhaps; the precedent of government deciding who is or isn’t “media” has been established since McCain-Feingold.
