Foreign Policy’s diplomatic blog The Cable reports:
The Sept. 11 attack on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi was in fact “a terrorist attack” and the U.S. government has indications that members of al Qaeda were directly involved, a top Obama administration official said Wednesday morning.
“I would say yes, they were killed in the course of a terrorist attack on our embassy,” Matt Olsen, the director of the National Counterterrorism Center, said Wednesday at a hearing of the Senate Homeland Security Committee, in response to questioning from Chairman Joe Lieberman (I-CT) about the attack that killed Ambassador Chris Stevens and three other Americans.
Sen. Susan Collins said further that based on what she’s heard from a classified briefing, she believed it was pre-planned:
“First, I will tell you that based on the briefings I have had, I’ve come to the opposite conclusion and agree with the president of Libya that this was a premeditated, planned attack that was associated with the date of 9/11, the anniversary of 9/11,” she said. “I just don’t think that people come to protests equipped with RPGs and other heavy weapons. And the reports of complicity — and they are many — with the Libyan guards who were assigned to guard the consulate also suggest to me that this was premeditated.”

So why did the administration and especially State send Susan Rice out on Sunday to take an untenable position on 5 different chat shows? What? She couldn’t have expressed doubt or equivocated or made some ambiguous statement? I just don’t get it.
It must be rotten to be one of Obama’s hacks, flacks or flunkies ‘cuz you know the rug will be pulled out from under you, the limb will be sawed off, you’ll be left twisting in the wind — somehow, somewhere, sometime.
Because it’s “Lie first, if that fails, lie again unless the truth actually comes out and then admit it”
Just to refine that a bit, it’s lie for 2 or 3 news cycles, then our operatives in the mainstream media will have created enough distortion and distraction to divert the short attention span of the average voter.
If you want to be a part of this horrible administration, all you have to do is check your sense of shame, any personal honor and any morals you have and then YOU TOO CAN BE A STAR!! (and maybe even a czar).
I still don’t understand the upside to this administration of the pretence otherwise. What would be the benefit?
that most voters will believe the pretense in any case, what with the mass media still trumpeting the video as the cause of the trouble, instead of the anniversary of 9/11, despite the administration’s current admission.
retractions rarely reach the same amount of readers as the original stories do, and the damage is done.
They only needed to keep up the lie for a few news cycles. Then the MSM would find some new distraction, like the romney 47% video, and the lie would never be reported once it is obviously proven to be a lie.
At least Jim Jones’ followers had the good graces to die after “drinking the kool-aid”.
The only difference in the obama kool aid is if he wins it is fatal to the whole country, not just to the drinkers.
