President Obama said in a statement this morning that security will be increased at U.S. embassies in Libya and around the world in response to the mob attack that left the U.S. ambassador and three other staff dead.
“I strongly condemn the outrageous attack on our diplomatic facility in Benghazi, which took the lives of four Americans, including Ambassador Chris Stevens. Right now, the American people have the families of those we lost in our thoughts and prayers,” Obama said. “They exemplified America’s commitment to freedom, justice, and partnership with nations and people around the globe, and stand in stark contrast to those who callously took their lives.”
He did not mention the embassy attack in Cairo, but referenced the Muhammad film that reportedly sparked both incidents.
“I have directed my Administration to provide all necessary resources to support the security of our personnel in Libya, and to increase security at our diplomatic posts around the globe,” the president said. “While the United States rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others, we must all unequivocally oppose the kind of senseless violence that took the lives of these public servants.”
Obama praised Stevens as “a courageous and exemplary representative of the United States.”
“Throughout the Libyan revolution, he selflessly served our country and the Libyan people at our mission in Benghazi. As Ambassador in Tripoli, he has supported Libya’s transition to democracy. His legacy will endure wherever human beings reach for liberty and justice.”
UPDATE: Obama is delivering a statement in the Rose Garden at 10:35 a.m. Clinton is scheduled to attend.

I miss the part where he requires the murderers to be immediately arrested and given to us.
I miss the part where he says “otherwise”.
I miss the explanation about the Ambassador not being escorted by armed Marines.
I miss the part where he behaves as if he were the President of the United States of America.
Ambassador Chris Stevens referring to the Libyan uprising: “I was thrilled to watch the Libyan people stand up and demand their rights.”
Well, there you go. Ambassador Chris Stevens was passionate about the Libyan people but his love was not reciprocated. His stupidity is best revealed by Edmund Burke: “One that confounds good and evil is an enemy to good.”
Obama seems to have no trouble with denigrating religion when the Catholic Church objects to being compelled to pay for contraception, or when religious denominations in the United States oppose same-sex marriage.
Funny how those feminist flunkies who harp on about the Republican war on women remain silent about how Islam mistreats women on a daily basis as part of its creed.
The Obama administration “rejects efforts to denigrate the religious beliefs of others”, except when the Administration forces American Catholic instutions to provide abortions.
How blind can they be? Is there not one person with a brain left in our entire government? This was not “senseless violence” and had nothing to do with “denigrating religion”. This was a planned coordinated terrorist Islamist attack on our embassies. It makes perfect sense if you understand their goals.
I am furious with our entire government including the Republicans who are failing to lead and just respond.
Obama is a disgrace and it is no coincidence that this is taking place under his weak leadership that values apologies to tyrants and terrorists more than strength in defending America and its citizens around the world.
We must get rid of him and all his appointments and bureaucrats – otherwise we are DONE as a nation and will slip into the same barbarism and savagery as the Muslims.
The only religion that is given ‘respect’ from Obama is the Muslim religion. He ‘spits’ on the beliefs of Catholics & Christians in his healthcare plan.
I missed the part about him watching Romney and learning a little bit about acting presidential. I guess he missed that video. He could have learned something like he did following Romney to visit the storm victims in Louisiana after the fact.
Each passing day renders more clear how far Obama is in over his head. The most inept possible response ever to an attack on American sovereignty. Apologies don’t demonstrate power, quite the opposite. The repeated apologies for America only makes us look weak and invite further transgressions.
