Drudge with the flash.
President Obama whispered to a top fundraiser this week that he believes GOP presidential hopeful Mitt Romney wants to name Gen. David Petraeus to the VP slot!
“The president wasn’t joking,” the insider explains to the DRUDGE REPORT.
A Petraeus drama has been quietly building behind the scenes.
Romney is believed to have secretly met with the four-star general in New Hampshire.
The pick could be a shrewd Romney choice. A cross-party pull. The Obama administration hailed Petraeus as one of history’s greatest military strategists. Petraeus was unanimously confirmed as the Director of the CIA by the US Senate 94-0.
My guess is that this is misdirection. Petraeus doesn’t fit the classic veep-as-attack-dog mold, though he does bring other strengths to the ticket. Romney lives in Obama’s head rent-free, and seems to have the president chasing shadows when he should have been doing his job.
But isn’t it fascinating that President GotALotOnHisPlate keeps not meeting with his jobs council, and keeps dodging questions from actual reporters, but keeps in close contact with the people who matter to him most: People who have money and are inclined to give it to him.
Flashback: Petraeus could be a game-changer.

Petraeus is going to have a hard time attacking policies with which he has been closely associated. I got it that he was/is a military officer and public servant but when a man of Petraeus’ stature executes such policies rather than resign, it seems to me to constitute an endorsement of said policies.
On the other hand, he does have the gifts of charm and charisma. I would not be surprised to learn that he gave photos opps to a total of 10% of deployed service member in Iraq while he was MNF-I.
Someone who would feel comfortable working for Obama as CIA director; please, it’s making it harder and harder for me to support Romney as the anti-Obama. Wish I had a strong American Constitutionalist to vote for…
Whatever. Last week it was Condi Rice.
I thought when Petraeus first succeeded in Iraq that maybe he was the real deal, but now it seems he’s basically mediocre and had a stroke of luck in Iraq. His support of the ROE in Afghanistan and some very impolitic words of his about not riling the Mussies and how Israel is a troublemaker, mean I no longer consider him first water militarily or politically. I’m not saying it was easy, but only that it ground him down.
My fear is that Romney picks a real lemon of a veep candidate, which is after all what killed the McCain candidacy. Since I live in California my vote for president won’t matter a whit, but I can only barely support Romney now even against Obambus, and a bad veep could turn me aggressively towards advocating not voting the presidential race at all.
What would Romney have to do? Pick full on Lib to get your vote?
WRONG! McCain surged ahead in the polls after picking Palin; he fell behind only after he passed the economic ball to Obama for whatever stupid reason.
The GOP establishment would like us to think it was Palin, but they’re after her because she ended the free lunch for the establishment in Alaska.
Jerry and Josh: I feel your pain, but seriously, keep your eyes on the “prize,” which is getting Obama out. Romney = a fighting chance for economic recovery. All the other baggage can be dealt with over time.
Romney needs to pick another boring guy. This election is a referendum on whether Obama has been good or bad for this country. Period.
Shoot, just pick some adult who doesn’t put his foot in his mouth, that would be a positive contrast to Biden.
I don’t really believe a whole lot of voters are going to think “I’d like to vote for Romney, but that VP choice is not right for me, so I’ll vote for Obama.”
Romney needs to pick another boring guy.
Fraid so. Go with what you know.
Along those lines, Portman seems the very most boring of the all, so far.
Rubio? Ryan? I have doubts about either being ready for the prime time, but both also have huge virtues and I’d support them strongly, but I don’t know how they’d play nationwide or if Romney (or his handlers) would go for them.
I really don’t have a very good image of Romney, and as critical as it is to kick Obambus, Axelrod, and that crew out of the white house, putting Romney in makes me pretty quesey. Choose a loser as veep and how can I expect anything better from Romney than from Obambus?
My only solid positive on Romney is that he’ll make the numbers add up, and of all Obambus’ faults, his inability to do that is the worst.
I expect anything better from Romney than from Obambus?
Very, very simple Josh, very simple:
The chances of the economy reviving are MUCH greater under Romney than Obama. Much greater. Period.
Romney meets with a lot of people. Just meeting with someone does not necessarily a Veep interest make.
Whomever he selects, once the choice is made I would love to see a Roadrunner cartoon with Biden as Wile E. Coyote and Romney’s pick saying, “Veep, veep!”
Would Biden be too old to be drawn with Acme pimples on his face?
I think Romney should pick Hillary as his Veep choice.
