Pete Stark has been representing the Fremont area in congress for so long no one even remembers who was the district’s Representative before him. But that’s OK, because Rep. Stark does not even remember what his district’s most famous resident did for a living.
In a jaw-dropping interview with the editorial board of the San Francisco Chronicle which was published by Carla Marinuccci today, the following exchange occurred:
Chronicle: You got Silicon Valley in your district, or a slice of it.
Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA): Do I?
Chronicle: Solyndra’s down by your way, as a matter of fact.
Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA): Yes.
Chronicle: What specifically are you going to do in the next term to work with the tech sector?
Rep. Pete Stark (D-CA): I wish I had big enough expense allowance to get one of those new “S’s” that Solyndra’s going to make down there, the electric car. My 10 year old is after me. He no longer wants a Porsche. He wants dad to have an “S” sedan. They sound wild. I guess they run $60,000-$90,000.”
Severe dementia, severe ideological cluelessness, or some combination of the two?

He’s got Solyndra confused with Tesla….which isn’t too bad, since they’re just across the street.
Yeah, and the US Capitol is across the street from the Supreme Court! But is that a good justification for confusing the two?
“So, Chief Justice Stark, will you write the minority opinion on the Obamacare ruling?”
Most voters don’t have a clue either. They just fill in the circle of the candidate with the (D) next to their name.
Yes. The real tragedy of all this is that Pete Stark will win November’s election in a walk. He could be in a straight jacket, and still win. The district has been a lock for the Dems for decades.
Fremont’s the most conservative part of his district, and (when I lived there) about half my acquaintance and I mutually forbore discussions of politics. Seriously, what do you expect?
– as always with the local liberal press and media, will no doubt still endorse him. Gives him an hour while, as always, ignoring qualified candidates who don’t fit its “The Narrative”. Republicans and other non-Donks need not apply; Chronic won’t even respond. Well, thanks to PJM, news will soon be decongested of rag content.
Can’t believe I’m the first one to say this: LOOK AT THAT “S” CAR GO!!!
Real S L O. Just like good ‘ol Pete’s BRAIN.
Pete’s been senile for some time now. Sadly he’s not the only one in the House.
Stark is a nasty, out of touch, arrogant, condescending jerk. And those are his good qualities.
Attending his town halls tended to make me want to gnash my teeth – he’d lie to your face about things you had to know.
To be absolutely fair, and it’s hard, Tesla Motors is building cars in the old auto plant (that was so shiny and new just a decade or so ago), which is also in Fremont.
The poster boy for term limits.
This doofus sounds like his dementia is partly coughing up the old joke about the snail who goes into a dealership to buy himself a fancy sports car, just so people will exclaim, “Look at that S car go!”
Yes, he’s thinking of Telsa, but knows so little about high-tech that he might as well be thinking of the Skunk Works down in Palmdale.
Sadly.
1. He has a ten year old?
2. Did you not notice how he said “I wish I had big enough expense allowance to get one of those.” EXPENSE ALLOWANCE???
He wants the taxpayers to pick up the tab.
What an idiot.
>>1. He has a ten year old?
My thought exactly. Dude’s 81 years old according to wiki. Some other interesting wikibits:
- voted against the farm subsidy bill of 2008
- voted against Bush’s bank bailout
If he voted against bailing out the banks I say we keep him.
Looks like his wife graduated high school in 1985 making her in her early/mid forties (43-44 y.o.)
This is depressing because it really illustrates in a single, short sound bite what is so very wrong with our country as a whole. Neurotic a–holes like this, sitting in congress and spending our money for decades without a challenge and getting constantly re-elected because voters are too damned blind, lazy or stupid to vote them out.
It’s no wonder there are no decent republicans running for election in CA anymore. If you can’t beat a senile, old hack like Pete Stark, what’s the point?
Poster Child for “Democrats are More Intelligent”
If he’s a ‘poster child’, then, what is Joe Biden, pray tell?
Yes. This ranks right up there with Rep Hank Johnson (D-GA) saying “Guam could tip over and capsize”.
Before he was elected to Congress, Pete Stark (formerly Fortney “Pete” Stark) ran a bank. Running a bank brands him forever as EEEEEEVIL. And one of his first claims to fame was taking out newspaper ads urging people not to buy government savings bonds.
OK, he is as senile as a shi(t)house rat. Who is his surrogate????? Making the decisions?
His constituents are idiots!
So our problem isn’t just dead people VOTING, but dead people being ELECTED.
I find it most noteworthy hat Marinucci goofs on him for the Solyndra-Tesla confusion, but goes right past that he wishes his taxpayer funded expense account isn’t big enough to buy the car.
It’s as if she thinks that part is right and proper.
