During the May Day Occupy march in New York yesterday, a trio of counter-protesters were assaulted by a screaming mob of left-wing demonstrators. The victims were members of NY ICE, a group that calls for “having our existing immigration laws enforced.”
Apparently, such an opinion is totally unacceptable to the Occupiers, who surrounded, screamed at, threatened, threw liquids and other objects at, and tore the signs from the hands of the counter-protesters.
Amazingly, two videos were recorded of the incident, from opposite angles: the first was recorded by one of the NY ICE members, and the second, which gives a better view of some of the assaults, was shot by one of the Occupiers. Be sure to watch both:

Now, just imagine if any kind of similar behavior happened at a Tea Party rally toward counter-demonstrators.
It would be front-page news for weeks.
But in this case, you’ll likely see it here and nowhere else, because the mainstream media covers up Occupy crimes and misbehavior at every opportunity.

I’ve spent a lot of time in countries from which illegals come from. There’s no need to paint they with the same brush I’d paint these morons.
However their attitude here begs an argument and it is this: I’ll agree to legalize everybody in the world and let them come to America. If in turn, they promise not to follow me again, when I go to their empty countries and turn them into what America used to be, while they continue to turn America into the places they came from.
If I can do it, that sounds totally fair to me.
PS. I can do it.
– much violence in the Bay Area yesterday. However, the SFPD Chief allowed the occupiers to drop their guard and then swooped in with the Sheriff’s deputies, now under better command.
I’m currently putting together several reports about May Day actions in the Bay Area. Hope to have them up by tomorrow.
My problem: There’s simply too much material!
I almost got injured at an Oakland incident, but luckily I escaped unharmed.
Take care of yourself (though I do know you will.)
Zombie – PLEASE watch yourself – you keep doing such great and BRAVE reporting and photojournalism that I fear for you every time you get into it – I know you already have the material to do that report on the Bay area activities and that you protect yourself as best you can, but you and the work you do are SO VALUABLE that I’m asking you to make an extra effort to protect yourself when covering thugs like these.
– whether on Market or Mission Street. p.s. Why did you let that Comment yesterday stand wherein it was asserted that “only a couple windows were broken” on Mission and the Comical’s story made a “mountain out of a molehill”? Reminds of when a Clintonista said that rape is just a punch in the stomach — only lower.
I don’t monitor comments for “truth levels.” Generally what gets comments trashed at PJM are when they violate the guidelines — abuse, threats, impersonating someone, spamming, etc. If someone is simply stating untruths, albeit in a polite way, then generally such comments stand — and can either be debunked by other commenters, by the poster if she or he has the gumption, or simply be ignored. Or, in a worst case scenario, successfully misinform the other commenters.
“…Now, just imagine if any kind of similar behavior happened at a Tea Party rally toward counter-demonstrators.
It would be front-page news for weeks.”…
The media is domestic enemy #1. They are the enablers and chroniclers of our downfall.
As someone who could easily identify myself as a minority on the census and countless other information gathering gestapo government forms, in the Hispanic category, I have always “preferred not to answer”. I’m an American first and foremost; my heritage can be traced back over 200 years in this country. It makes me sick that these occupy dirt bags get away with this violence and are celebrated or their actions glossed over in the media. SMH
Trying to catch what is being yelled, and who is yelling it, in the first video; “this is what coverage looks like” doesn’t make any sense.
As far as the rest is concerned, I really, really would like to see the citizen self-help tradition revived. Axe handles do not cost that much.
The person chanting in the first video is the NY ICE counter-protester herself — the person holding the camera. What she’s chanting is:
“This is what courage looks like,” with a sort of Queens or Staten Island accent on the “courage” part, making it a bit hard to understand.
She’s saying it to herself essentially as a reassuring mantra; repeating it over and over to get through the crisis.
“This is what courage looks like…”
No, dear, this is what a Mob looks like.
Too bad your next comment wasn’t, “this is what riot control looks like *WHAP*…”
Mob violence and “rage” are acceptable Free Speech for left/libtards… especially if the media has anything to do w/ it.
Where are all the Democrats, once again coming out in support of these brave Occupiers?? Getting too close to election time? Or are too many people noticing what lawless cretins these immature Occupiers are?
I hope businesses all across the nation are making every effort to identify these protesters. It will come in handy if the hiring should ever begin again. (I did notice a couple of protesters hiding their faces. S’pose these are the ones that actually have brains?)
I wonder why we’re not seeing antics like these here in Washington DC. This is the Capitol, after all – nidus of the evil capitalist whatchamacallit. According to the news, the Occupiers did some stuff and some of the usual Marxist suspects did their usual Marxist thing in Malcolm X Park. There was supposed to be a march or something. But so far, I haven’t heard about any busted glass or busted heads.
So what’s up with NYC and San Francisco and Oakland? Or did the word get out among the radicals to act like ladies and gentlemen here in Obama’s back yard?
The difference is likely that there aren’t any citizen journalists in DC documenting whats going on.
When these douchewaffles were all calling the three counter protesters “fascists” it pointed to just how wickedly ignorant they were.
What is “fascism”?
It is, first of all, a variety of socialism. It presumes the organization of society on the basis of a revolutionary goal, almost always described in terms of some vaguely articulated future condition.
It calls for the elimination of “free” private enterprise; industries and businesses would be run according to the needs of the party and the nation.
It requires the organization of “action” groups whose purpose is to enforce ideological principles above and beyond any common or statutory law.
It demands absolute obedience to a set of ideological principles.
At the same time, it emphasizes the superiority of action over contemplation.
Emotions and feelings are considered to “authentic” and therefore superior to logic. The latter is deemed dehumanizing and “inauthentic.”
Slogans, symbols, emblems, banners, party songs, all take on a transcendent meaning and are treated as sacred. Embracing the symbolism is the sign of loyalty; questioning the symbols identifies one as an enemy.
It involves the dehumanization of ideological opponents. These opponents are first defined, then concentrated, and ultimately annihilated. The later three phases are logical corollaries to the dehumanization.
If we compare the groups in question, it’s pretty damn easy to see for anyone who has eyes, ears, and is capable of rational thought, who the fascists in the pictures are.
It is worth recalling that in many parts of Europe — France, Italy, and Spain, as well as Germany and Russia — fascism had its origins in Anarchism and Syndicalism. Bukarin was the godfather of modern fascism — while many soi-disant “Anarchists” would like to deny it, it was their fraction of socialism, born of the split at the Second International, that laid the foundation for fascist movements across Europe. Of course you won’t find this out reading the standard apologetic literature for socialism and Bolshevism taught in nearly all American and European schools, but it doesn’t take much digging to discover the truth.
We are looking at the new Brownshirts/Blacshirts/Blueshirts. It doesn’t matter that they dress like Sixties holdovers — that was their “war” in the same way that 1914-1918 was the “war” of the fascists of the 1920s; they wear the uniform of their old war in preparation for the new one.
Do not underestimate the evil. Just because they wander and wear tie die and drawstring pants makes them no less dangerous than their jackbooted forbears a century ago.
You’ve nailed it.
THANK YOU for writing this, Lucius Septimus. I was going to address the subject, but you’ve done a terrific job.
Even some allegedly well-educated friends of mine from my high school and theater days think the Tea Partiers are the next wave of fascism in the world. But I got interested in reading up on fascism, Nazism, socialism and communism when I was a teenager and have kept up the study ever since, so I’ve known for a long time that fascism/Nazism are just versions of socialism, in totalitarian competition with their big brother, communism. They’re all the enemy of honest, independent minds everywhere who just want to live by their own reason and values and preferences. They all disrespect the individual and his right to his liberty and property.
The difference between someone who deeply respects the rights of others and these Occupiers is that the rights respecters would never consider pulling a sign out of their oppositions’ hands and tearing it apart, or throwing water or anything else at their opponents (unless it was in self-defense against a physical attack). A person who genuinely – at their deepest moral level – respects rights, does not lose their respect for rights when they encounter someone who disagrees with them. They don’t throw that respect to the wind, give in to impulse, and vandalize someone else’s property on grounds that the someone else is allegedly “racist” or “fascist” or otherwise wrong.
Also, respect for rights and respect for reason go hand-in-hand. A person who doesn’t respect reason won’t do a very good job of working out their concepts, taking care with definitions – their minds will be vague and shallow. So when they come across someone who opposes something like illegal immigration, their ability to sort out all the pertinent factors and nuances involved in making a just judgment on the opposition is lame. They haven’t bothered to develop and exercise – to fine tune – their reasoning capacity. So they can – without a twinge of guilt – scream “racist” at those people, and shout “We are PEOPLE! We are not illegal!” Well, “illegal immigrant” doesn’t imply at all that the immigrant isn’t a person. It doesn’t mean they don’t have the rights of a person. It does mean that – just as a person does not have the right to enter someone else’s house without permission and without observing the rules laid down by the homeowner, none of us has the right to enter a country not our own without permission and abiding by the laws of that country. So if you do enter a country illegally, you should do so knowing that you just might get caught and sent back to your country of origin.
I have great sympathy for people who want to emigrate to a foreign country to escape persecution or poverty and make a constructive and prosperous life for themselves. But I also want my government to keep tabs on who comes into the country and where they are. And I want the people who come in to be law-abiding. That isn’t racist. It’s reasonable.
Your point about respect for others and their rights is spot-on. I was reminded of this looking at my daughter’s kindergarten “report card.” She didn’t get particularly good marks for “respecting other people’s property.” But what toddler does?
So there you have it — the OWS crowd behave like undisciplined toddlers. These “protests” are infantile tantrums. But these are adults with all the social, political, and economic responsibilities that go with that.
An adult who insists on behaving like a petulant child is likely become a criminal. And a political movement based on such behavior cannot help but degenerate into the worst and most criminal forms of tyranny.
As for the immigrant issue, fascist regimes regularly extol tribalism.
“And I want the people who come in to be law-abiding. That isn’t racist. It’s reasonable.”
Ahhhhhh … but to some of these folks “reason” is by definition racist, sexist, imperialist, etc. To ask someone to be “reasonable” is to demand that they become complicit in their own oppression, surrendering their agency and authenticity. To be “reasonable” is to assume the false consciousness of the corrupt master class; it is to be a slave.
To be authentic is to act. And “action” involves acting out. As one of the demagogues of 1968 said, “l’insolence c’est la nouvelle arme de la revolution.”
These people really believe that to be true. They see nothing wrong with bullying their enemies.
It is, of course, the very soul of idiocy to take a movement that wants LESS government control over citizens and call it “fascist”.
But we have to remember that these creatures use words like “facist”, “unconstitutional” and “dictator” the way a five year-old uses the word “unfair”. It’s just a label applied to anything they don’t like.
Zombie – Don’t expect the declining LSM to report the news honestly. It’s all the news we can skew to fit our view (all the time). It’s people like you who get the truth out that makes PJM worth reading.
I was with Joanna from NYICE earlyer from noon to 4:15pm that day (May 1st) Nothing was going on. We were ecpecting the illegals and their sympthizers earlyer. We thought they were goingto be a no show. So most of us left (abou 20 of us) But Joanna and the other two stuck around. They are troopers. I am kicking myself for not staying.

It is not racist, bigoted or xenophobic to demand that our countrys borders be secured . It is racist, bigoted and xenophobic by illegal aliens, their facilitators and advocates to demand that we allow them free reign with impunity in our country, simply because of who they are. Dont fall for their ploy, exhibit a staunch backbone and tell them we are the most diverse nation on the face of the earth we welcome more LEGAL immigrants that the rest of the entire world combined does every year
