Open Secret: Planned Parenthood turns tax dollars into donations to Democrats

Just like the government workers’ unions, only more offensive.

In 2010, Planned Parenthood and a California affiliate together spent more than $700,000 on federal lobbying efforts, a Center for Responsive Politics analysis of federal lobbying records finds. By comparison, all other organizations that primarily advocate for abortion rights collectively spent $247,280 on federal lobbying efforts during the same period, according to the Center’s research. …

The organization’s political action committee, for example, donated more than $148,000 to federal candidates — almost all Democrats — during the 2010 election cycle. The PAC spent more than $443,000 overall.

Planned Parenthood also recorded $905,796 in independent expenditures during the 2010 cycle — money spent in support of, or in opposition to, federal political candidates, largely through advertisements. The top beneficiaries of this money were Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.) and Patty Murray (D-Wash.).

When Chuckles the Sockpuppet Schumer says Democrats will “never, never, never” vote to defund Planned Parenthood, he’s not kidding. But their intransigence has nothing to do with anyone’s physical health. It has everything to do with the Democrats’ political health. They would be voting to cut off their own campaign cash, pried from the hands of taxpayers.

Wasn’t the whole point of Obamacare to provide for healthcare for everyone? How can they claim that womens’ healthcare will suffer without Planned Parenthood funding, when Obamacare provides the Big Nanny’s Umbrella to provide coverage?

ABORTION is ONLY service Planned Parenthood provides that is not readily available in the regular medical community. A standard gynecology exam routinely does all the screening PP claims to provide.

I don’t have any health care yet, and due to the blocking of the Republicans, I probably won’t get it from “Obamacare” as you so dismissively call it. Planned parenthood gives affordable birth control and cancer screenings to low income women who can’t afford health care from private insurers, and are not quite poor enough for Medicare.

So why stand in their way? Their funding is so small from the government, why hold up the entire budget over that? Because a woman’s right to choose is something that must be crushed?

    • tortillapete

      Silly AnotherPontOfView – women’s rights aren’t crushed, baby’s skulls are…

If “their funding is so small from the government”–which means the taxpayers–surely they can find ways to get by without it, such as by not funneling money into Democrat campaign coffers. Abortion is a highly lucrative industry for PP. They don’t need taxpayers’ money besides.

As for ObamaCare (or PelosiCare if you prefer), many people have already lost their health insurance BECAUSE of how it has made costs spiral upward. Many of the rest of us are finding our premiums suddenly skyrocketing, after many years of small increases. Socialized medicine means LESS medical care overall, at higher prices, and only with the government’s permission.

Because abortion is their burden not mine. What you conveniently fail to mention is that government funding frees up donations that should be used to provide the services you’re whining about losing so your heroes of eugenics can buy votes. Free to choose does not in any way mean free to send me the bill or sadle me with the spineless turds you worship. The fact is that your party shirked their responsibility by not passing a budget when they controlled the house and senate. Now creeps like you are whining. You failed to do the job when you had the chance so you have no business commenting.

Dear Mr. Preston: Without doubting your basic premise, the notion that PP’s 700K is the cause of all this ruckus seems dubious to me. I suppose PP is bawling, First they came for us, you’ll get it next, but even that doesn’t seem enough. I just can’t see PP on its own donating enough dough to carry that much weight. I think PP is more a symbol for the combustible rubbish on the Left who say PP gets just a teeny weeny bit of dough, GOPers are sure mean to deny them.

    Sincerely yours,
    Gregory Koster

Obscene. Evidence enough to totally defund the whole shebang and to bring both PP and the dims up on RICO charges.

Because after a while it ALL adds up. This is low hanging budgetary fruit when cuts NEED to be made. Nobody is taking your “womanly right to choose” away from you to have an abortion they are simply taking taxpayer funding away from your abortion. Quite simply this is an elective procedure (no matter what your stance on abortion) and should not be financed by the electorate in as much as breast enhancements or botox should not be.

Pardon me, AnotherPont, (did you mean Another PoInt?), but could you please explain how this is my responsibility?. I didn’t choose to have unprotected sex, so why should I pay to have the child killed or to support the child if not?

Please show the Constitutional cites that make this a federal responsibility.

  7. 7. Jill

Please post links to Planned Parenthood facilities that provide cancer screening as a stand alone product.

    Otherwise, effo.

  8. 8. Buck O'Fama

The Democrats are certainly a bunch of termites. I never realized what a bunch of craven grasping hypocritical sniveling pieces of crap they were. Damn, they are worse than those scumbag real estate salesmen in “Glengarry Glen Ross.”

  9. 9. Ron Nord

The whole of the Democrat Party has become a criminal enterprise out to fleece the taxpayer. It seems that the Democrats are worse than the Mafia but they don’t carry guns but briefcases; extortion and quid pro quo like PP’s and union kickbacks seem to be the main money maker for this political cartel.

Unions and the hand you a Dead Baby lobby- who’d a thunk it…

And this would be different from the agriculture subsidies to big ag that redound to the benefit of the Republicans how?

    • MisterH

Actually it is not really different except that the subsidies to PP are infinitesimal compared to the billions shoveled at agribusiness. However, both democrat and republican politicians are rewarded for their patronage to the “farmers.” (BTW, farm subsidies need to be cut off entirely as well as to PP.)

    Where are the Catholic BIshops?

  13. 13. Ridiculous

Oh yes, I’m so sure that a whole $148,000 in campaign donations (an incredibly paltry sum, when you look at the billions that corporate interests are allowed to funnel into campaigns in this day and age) is enough to get Dems to shut down the whole government.

Are you all just intentionally obtuse, or do you not realize that none of the money PP gets goes towards abortions? That’s illegal, and always has been.

I have never been pregnant nor have I ever had an abortion. I went to Planned Parenthood for pap smears, breast cancer screenings, and birth control pills for two years while I was uninsured. They offered sliding payment scales based on my income, and at times I couldn’t pay, allowed me to do a payment plan. They care about women’s health, unlike the GOP.

The next Republican administration should audit 501(c)3 nonprofits for
their lobbying and political contributions. These activities are
disallowed by the IRS Code. Any nonprofit that violates these regulations should have their right to raise tax deductible contributions revoked. Should be fun to watch.
