The Jimmy Savile pedophilia scandal is turning into Britain’s version of the Marc Dutroux case. Dutroux was a Belgian child molester whose activities led to suggestions that he was a supplier of victims to and protected by a ring of prominent and powerful persons. After his conviction thousands marched in the street demanding a search for the others.
The Others.
Do they exist in the Savile case? Now what started off as a handful of victims coming forward to denounce Savile, a former star at the BBC who died last year has turned into gigantic case involving 300 ‘victims’; 400 lines of inquiry; 130 interviews according to the Metropolitan Police. The more rocks they turn over, the more slimy things crawl out.
Reuters now reports that there may have been a ‘pedophile ring’ at the BBC involving the corporation’s stars, some of whom may even be currently employed. There’s even an American connection. The incoming CEO of the New York Times was a former director general of the BBC who is now being asked why he killed a story exposing Savile’s misdeeds at the publicly funded media corporation. The public editor of the NYT writes:
On Tuesday, the director general of the BBC, George Entwistle, was grilled by Parliament about his role in the events at the well-respected British media company.
A tough investigative committee is raking him over the coals about whether he knew what was going on when the BBC killed an investigative segment on its “Newsnight” program about a celebrity TV personality, Jimmy Savile, accused of sexually abusing hundreds of young girls. Mr. Savile died last year.
Killing the story has impugned the BBC’s integrity.
Mr. Entwistle, though, was not the director general of the BBC when all of this was going on last year.
That was Mark Thompson, who is now the incoming president and chief executive of The New York Times Company. Mr. Thompson was said to be in the Times Building on Monday for preliminary meetings, but he hasn’t started yet. In fact, Times reporters and editors were reminded on Monday in a style note not to refer to him in articles as the current president and chief executive.
Now a British member of Parliament has alleged that the Metropolitan police may have been aware, or could have been aware of a pedophile ring that reached all the way up into 10 Downing Street back in the mid-1990s. Citing evidence introduced convict to sex abuser Peter Righton, Labour MP Tom Watson says “one of its members boasts of his links to a senior aide of a former Prime Minister, who says he could smuggle indecent images of children from abroad.”
Righton was himself a prominent ‘protector’ of children. “a former consultant to the National Children’s Bureau and lecturer at the National Institute for Social Work in London, admitted two illegal importation charges and one charge of possessing obscene material. He was fined £900.” Just who those high ranking persons were is now the subject of speculation.
In the aftermath of Mr Watson’s remarks, media outlets speculated that he was referring to the late former Prime Minister Sir Edward Heath – who was the subject of unsubstantiated rumours about sex with under-age boys – or to Sir Peter Morrison, a former Downing Street aide who died in 1995.
However, The Independent understands that Mr Watson’s comments were not aimed at either Sir Edward or Sir Peter, but at a living person associated with Margaret Thatcher’s administration.
They are thought to involve the activities of the Paedophile Information Exchange, a pro-paedophile group in existence between 1974 and 1984, which believed there should be no age of consent.
That’s pretty heavy stuff. A possible prime minister, some cabinet or subcabinet officials, an undetermined number of people at the BBC, how many Others were there? One can begin by looking at the public shadow, the men out in the open, the Pedophile Information Exchange. PIE as it was called was a high-class version of the North American Man Boy Love Association (NAMBLA). It lobbied for the abolition of the age of consent in order to make children available for sex.
The Paedophile Information Exchange (PIE) was a UK pro-paedophile activist group, founded in October 1974 and officially disbanded in 1984.” PIE cross-fertilized with a number of the sexual advocacy groups prominent at the time….
Since the majority of enquiries were from England, PIE relocated to London in 1975 where 23-year old Keith Hose became its new Chairperson. Hose had connections with the South London group of the Gay Liberation Front (GLF). GLF thinking questioned the family as the basis of an economic, social and sexual system and certain sections of GLF favoured the abolition of the age of consent; their youth group had staged a march in support of this demand (however, it should be noted that the age of consent for homosexuals was 21 at the time, in comparison to 16 for heterosexuals).
Paedophile Action for Liberation had developed as a breakaway group from South London Gay Liberation Front. It was the subject of an article in the Sunday People, which dedicated its front page and centre-spread to the story. The result was intimidation and loss of employment for some of those who were exposed. It later merged with PIE.
Keith Hose wrote that ‘The only way for PIE to survive, was to seek out as much publicity for the organization as possible…. If we got bad publicity we would not run into a corner but stand and fight. We felt that the only way to get more paedophiles joining PIE… was to seek out and try to get all kinds of publications to print our organization’s name and address and to make paedophilia a real public issue.’
A campaign to attract media attention was not effective at that time, but Hose’s attendance at the 1975 annual conference of the Campaign for Homosexual Equality (CHE) in Sheffield, where he made a speech on paedophilia, was covered at length in The Guardian.
In the same year Hose also attended a conference organized by Mind, the national mental health organization, where it was suggested that PIE should submit evidence to the Home Office Criminal Law Revision Committee on the age of consent. PIE submitted a 17-page document in which it proposed that there should be no age of consent, and that the criminal law should concern itself only with sexual activities to which consent is not given, or which continue after prohibition bya civil court.
This explains another reason for the invulnerability of the pedophile rings. The connection with left wing and fringe groups would probably come to the attention of secret services like the KGB and they would recruit. One of their most successful spy rings was the Cambridge 5, whose members were talent spotted by Anthony Blunt. Blunt cultivated a homosexual network through which he recruited potential spies and sometimes blackmailed them into acquiescence. Miranda Carter describes the sort of man Blunt was.
From the moment of his exposure as a former Russian spy by the Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, in November 1979, Anthony Blunt became a man about whom anything could be said.
He was described as ‘the spy with no shame’. He was ‘an arrogant evil poseur’. He was a ‘treacherous Communist poof ‘. It was rumoured that at Cambridge he had seduced and blackmailed impressionable undergraduates into serving his nefarious schemes. He had been responsible for the deaths of forty-nine wartime Dutch Special Operations agents behind enemy lines; he might, indeed, have been responsible for any number of deaths. He had been involved in devious conspiracies with Louis Mountbatten—possibly to put Mountbatten’s relatives on the thrones of Europe after the Second World War. He had salted away a fortune abroad. He had brought about the suicide of one of his students, Virginia Lee. He had been a predatory homosexual, or even a paedophile with links to the Kincora children’s home scandal in Northern Ireland; he had blackmailed the Establishment into granting him immunity from prosecution by threatening to reveal proof that the Duke of Windsor had been plotting with the Nazis during the Second World War; he had been an authenticator of forgeries, and had connived with the French picture dealer Georges Wildenstein to sell a fake Georges de la Tour to the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; he had stolen the credit for a book on Picasso from a pupil and colleague, Phoebe Pool; he had borrowed money from his friend Victor Rothschild to buy a Poussin, and never repaid it; he had cheated the elderly Duncan Grant out of a Poussin he had owned, subsequently using his influence to get an export licence to sell the picture at a hugely inflated price to a gallery in Canada; he had engineered the Courtauld Institute’s move to Somerset House in the Strand in order to deprive the country of a Turner museum, as part of a fiendish plot to ‘relegate British art to a secondary position’.
After his exposure, Blunt became a kind of screen on which fiction and fantasy were projected. There was little he could do about this. After the publication of one of the more extravagant stories he asked his lawyer, Michael Rubinstein, if he had any legal recourse, and was told that he did not: he had lost his good name, and it would therefore be impossible to sue for libel. He had in effect so defamed himself that no further defamation was possible.
Since homosexuality no longer carries the stigma it once did the potential of pedophile networks to any secret cabal would be plain to outfits like the KGB. The new homosexuality is pedophilia. Thus, the pedophiles in high places, if they exist, would be protected in depth, not only by the need to protect their social status, but the need to protect other entanglements.
How far will the British inquiries go? Probably not very far. The British Establishment, as with what Codevilla called the elite in America are a bi-partisan bunch. They may differ in politics but they protect each other. Jimmy Savile far from being at its apex, was probably one of its lowest rent members. Besides he is dead and is safe to beat up on. But as to the living — they will likely remain in the shadows, unshakable in their determination to survive, insatiable in their appetites.
One of the strangest things about pedophilia is that while groups like PIE and NAMBLA have some chance of respectability in ‘educated’ circles there is no chance whatsoever of acceptance among hardened criminals. Criminals tend to be creatures of instinct. And their invariable instinct is that child molestation is a terrible thing. No argument, no sophistry, no talking points will dissuade them. The untutored criminal senses something evil in that dark shadow by the door and will not go near it.
A pedophile may be lionized in the left-wing intellectual circles, but he is dead meat in jail. Fritz Lang’s 1931 film M ends with the summary trial of a pedophile, memorably played by Peter Lorre, before a jury of criminals.
I remarked to someone from the old Philippine underground that criminal prison was a far saner place than a jail full of ideologues. “Why?” he asked. “Because it is more human,” I replied. He reflected for a moment and started laughing. “You’re right,” he said. I nearly added that being right never bought anyone a cup of coffee. But the Others can always buy you a mug.

Indeed, several years back I heard that the American Psychological Organization or some such professional group announced that sex between adults and children was Okay and was actually of benefit to the child.
It is only a matter of time before someone points out that the murder of children by pedophiles is simply an attempt to avoid prosecution, and it is we, the ones with the sexual hang-ups, that are really responsible for the deaths of such children. They’ll say it’s just like pot; decriminalize it and save lives.
So that guy in CA who hacked off that little girl’s arms in 1978 was just trying to kill her because we would have locked him up. And the girl did not die, testified against him, and they did lock him up – for a mere 25 years or so – and when he got out he moved to FL and and very shortly thereafter killed a woman before committing suicide. No doubt they’ll say he learned that kind of behavior in prison.
Like I said: They Never Know When to Quit.
The age of consent will be 10 within ten years. Probably 9 in GB because of the influential Muslim population. That was the age at which Mohammed consummated his child marriage. The biographies say that the Prophet started sex play with the child when she was 6.
What would prevent such a thing? Chasing after the deceased Jimmy Saville over alleged offences committed decades ago was only one of the major stories. The other one concerned an investigation into police activities during a fatal good old-fashioned English soccer fan stampede equally far in the past.
London’s airport is only a sad shadow of Dubai’s. British industry is dying. The UK is one of the most unsustainably indebted nations in the world. And yet the Brit chattering classes are firmly focused on the distant past, bemoaning events which cannot be changed. Just as the PBS is a shadow of the BBC. The shadow of a shadow. For some strange reason what what Codevilla called the “America’s ruling Class is determined to imitate yesterday’s European fads, because they are European and presumably sophisticated. They want the BBC, the National Health Service and all the accouterments of a welfare state just when it is on the descent. Why exactly I don’t know. They are not provincial yet they are acting like yokels hankering after the continental fashions that went out of style long ago. One of Tolkien’s great insights was that malice tended to be derivative. It was unoriginal; it could only pervert an original, but never create something wholly new itself.
Oxbridge, Eton, Harrow, the NHS, the BBC, the clever repartee. And maybe even the romance of the Cambridge spies. Oh how that American ruling class wanted copies of them all. And in the process they managed to convert what was sui generis, and magnificent in its own terms into something derivative. How did they contrive to feel so inferior while at the apex of what was after all a far more powerful country than Britain ever was? Some kind of self-hatred, maybe. They could not see their own magnificence, nor even the magnificence of their country and lusted after false gods.
It would be ironic if America succeeded in recreating the cheap copies of British state institutions just as they were collapsing across the Atlantic.

The rich and famous who got that way by immoral means must necessarily use their money and influence to tear down the morality of those around them.
That way deviance becomes the norm and what they did is made to seem more acceptable.
As for the new homosexuality being pedophilia, I think the ancient Greeks would take issue with that.
The Jews, I believe, were the ones to elevate respect for women and children as a value. A big part of doing that was forbidding homosexuality, since most sex at the time was a matter of who was perpetrating whom.

“Sophisticated,” “worldy” Americans have viewed their vast continent as “provincial” for a very long time. Even after New York took the lead in the art world after WWII, and Americans created their own literary materpieces and genres, the infatuation with Europe only seemed to grow.
I suspect that one reason why the American Left, including Obama, wants to emulate European social democracy even more than is already the case, is because, despite their “loathing” of their own country, they actually think that, as Americans, and with the greater resources at their disposal, they can do social democracy better than Europeans can. They might have been right — for a glorious decade or two — but for the fact that they decided to do this during a severe economic downturn. Very inconvenient, that!

Perhaps because so many of them are victims of abuse and neglect as children themselves?
If they really push for pedophilia as the new homosexuality, they’ll run up against a push back they never anticipated, nor can understand. The instinct of a parent to protect their children is the strongest there is, bar none. Some crooked elites at the top may think they can push such an agenda because they never had children themselves and can never understand the emotions that go with it. They’d be sowing the seeds of their own destruction. Even supposing they got laws passed eliminating the age of consent, when a parent finds that their child has been raped by some filthy old pedophile, if the law refuses to intervene, vigilante justice will be done, the law be damned. You can convince people to ignore the sodomites down the street, because after all they aren’t bothering anyone else, but you will not get a jury consisting of parents to convict another parent for taking revenge on a pedophile when the law would not. I still have enough faith in humanity that the instinct to protect their own children will triumph over any evil machinations of a small perverted elite. At the very least lynching would again become common in America’s more traditional communities.

On the whole sex crimes thing, we have gone so absurdly far in other ways in the US, so when Marv Albert wants to suck a couple of toes he can be accused of everything and anything, his “victim” cannot even be identified or her history introduced into evidence, and he is branded a sexual predator and deviant for the rest of his life.
This of course calls into question any and all “sex crime” issues and makes it difficult to have a reasoned conversation about anything.

It may be that our perceptions of evil are rooted in our biology, in natural law, much more than from social constructs. Criminals and poor people, being unschooled tend to see things through the prism of their natures and personal experiences. Thus they may instinctively recoil from certain acts in much the same way that human beings recoil from reptiles and spiders while being attracted to furry critters like hamsters and kittens.
But an intellectual is not similarly inhibited. The educated man enjoys the advantages of decades of indoctrination. He is a mass of acquired tastes that the poor man has never heard of and thinks himself immeasurably the better for them. Some of these tastes are beneficial, or prove to be, like a fascination for mathematics. Or the habit of analytical thinking. But some of those acquired tastes are nothing but fashion. They are the culture of a clique, sometimes a degenerate clique.
Therefore it has been said that while an ignorant man may sometimes be led into believing some trivial foolishness, it takes a really educated man to swallow the monumental whopper. A criminal may be a pedophile but he often retains the good sense to know, like the Peter Lorre character in “M”, that he is doing something evil. In fact you will find that most criminals will not take the trouble to deny that the crimes they commit are in fact crimes.
They know they are criminals. It is the intellectuals who believe their evil is the salvation of the world. They will argue that pedophilia is not some sad compulsion they have been cursed with but some impulse they should proclaim from the rooftops.
The men from PIE wanted to ‘mainstream’ pedophilia. They wanted it taught in schools, talked about on radio, featured in the movies. An ordinary criminal would not normally think of that. But an intellectual would. A serial killer can kill only a few tens of people at most. But it takes an ideologue to kill hundreds or thousands, even millions and be proud of it.
Imagine my dismay — but not really my surprise — to discover that people I had played chess against and talked long hours into the night with in long-ago youth were accused of masterminding purges that killed hundreds of Filipino communists.
Give me the thugs every single time. They are safer in the long run.
The Gay “ideal” sex partner is young and smooth, the “boy” in the relationship. While younger men might seek a more mature partner, predatory or “top” Gay men are always looking for the boy. Either a passable young man in his late teens or twenty’s might due, but the real-underage-thing is the ideal.
I’ve had the unfortunate “privilege” to read some Gay material (oops, now that makes me a hidden pervert, a closeted Gay myself – there goes my legitimacy). Most straight men, less conservative straight men, have not read the innermost thoughts of Gay, Bi, and Sadist men (or women). That’s why most people do not understand how seriously perverted and dangerous the Gay lifestyle is.
First comes thought, conjecture, fantasy, then comes will, and finally action. Fantasy becomes reality, and to at least some percentage of Gay men, the reality includes pedophilia.
How can one feel hope at the thoughts of a Romney victory and economic recovery? Economic recovery and collapse of fuel prices are the only things that can now save and perpetuate this repugnant, immoral, evil culture.

I’m not so sure about that, at least not in the modern US. The “I’m depraved because I’m deprived” mindset has filtered down to the point where petty crimes are excused as exacting justice from the oppressors BY THE criminals. A couple of local women convicted of embezzling from city government had apparently remarked that it was “their turn”; their involvement with “community organizer” types had quite clearly informed their belief that what they were doing was not stealing taxpayer funds, but exacting vengeance.

Only the shell around this culture is rotten. The core — the vast majority — is strong. The evidence of that is that the left, while covering for the immoral and rotten, still uses stigma against those acts as weapons against their foes.
For decades the press managed to convince the majority they were actually the minority, but with the rise of conservative talk radio and the internet, that deception has been countered. (And that’s what the lamentations from the press about “unprofessionals” are about.)
If given time — and not beaten into submission — that majority will, I believe, reassert itself and begin the process of healing. There may be some places were the decay is so advanced the recovery will be bloody — California, obviously — but I think it can be done peacefully in most of the world.

There has always been a certain sickness associated with power. Or maybe one way to indulge in your sickness is to gain power?
A ruling class is an outgrowth of a mature political system. By way of analogy, look at the auto industry circa 1910. Guys like the Dodge brothers and Ford had earned their chops. They’d been messing around with production lines, machine tools, vendor and dealer networks, some form of quality control, and the like for a couple of decades at that point. Lawyers, accountants and proto-MBA “Taylor Men” couldn’t possibly hope to enter into that fluid an environment and succeed. But flash forward to 1960, the golden era of the whiz kids. CPAs, MBAs, and JDs had fully trained labor forces, engineering forces, distribution and supply networks, and an oligopoly (to check competition) to play with. All they were concerned with was squeezing out profits (the world portrayed in David Halberstam’s The Reckoning). They were glorified rent seekers. Creativity dropped to zero and eventually new entrants came into the market and destroyed that happy little world.
For a number of reasons, it has taken our Republic much longer to reach a similar state. Some of the factors which slowed the transition to a ruling class were
- A strong federal system that apportioned sovereignty among the states, the people, and the central government thus discouraging the formation of any one dominant power center.
- Regionalism, which tended to undermine the emergence of a nation-wide elite.
- Serious internal and external threats that forced the electorate to look to leaders — as opposed to demagogues — from time to time.
- True peer competitors that posed existential threats (a subset of the previous bullet).
- Tremendous growth opportunities that provided a relief valve for the societal pressures (nepotism, ethnic tensions, class resentment) that would otherwise tend to push us towards class stratification.
Everyone who has participated in the debate on the conservative/libertarian side of the blogosphere should have a pretty good appreciation of how these factors have shifted:
- Two world wars, a cold war, a Great Depression, and judicial activism have wounded federalism… perhaps fatally. I personally cannot envision a political solution that would get us back to pre-New Deal federalism.
- Regional culture, if not dead, is terminally ill. Mass media have united the country as never before. As a result, all of the Ruling Class wannabees I have encountered over the years are not interested in going to city hall or the state house. Their goal is D.C. and there are more opportunities in the “center” (as the Soviets used to say of Moscow) than bright young things can fill. This has led to a brain drain. Local and state government in many places seems enervated and incapable of any action besides collecting rents and accommodating special interests.
- There are plenty of serious threats but few are facing up to them. Some are serious enough to destroy us.
- There are potential peer competitors but no actual ones at this moment. Thus the lack of bipartisan foreign consensus. Wretchard has often focused on the asymmetric threat posed by actors with WMD. Again, few in the Ruling Class seem concerned by them.
- Rent seeking by the Ruling Class seems to have seriously curtailed our growth opportunities. Rather than giving up power, the Ruling Class has taken a welfare state approach and created a vast dependent class in the bargain. Some national and state politicians are taking an overtly classist approach to raising revenues.
I will close with two questions:
Will the ruling class give up power without a struggle?
Can the very concept of free markets survive the coming financial catastrophe or will they be completely (and wrongly) discredited?
Lang filmed only truth in his movies. They were prescient, inspired works.

Aha. That, is the question. 2008 put that question squarely on the table. Correct. Many criminals have been damaged. Most have contempt for normal society but there are categories.
Most simply seek to extract wealth or power without conforming to the rules of legitimate work. They perhaps correctly see no difference between themselves and politicians or practitioners of other professions. They know where the lines are as to what is voluntary parasitic criminal behavior, subject to control or negotiation so as to extract from the host without killing it, and what is genuinely nihilist compulsion.
Even those who destroy can be divided into two groups. Some focus on individual victims. They rob or kill a target to meet a tangible need or in response to a personal confrontation. They are dangerous and should face justice but the threat they pose is circumscribed.
The final group are people like Peter Lorre in “M” who are essentially at war with God and the world. The other criminals know that there is no rehabilitation for such people and more to the point, since the average criminal does not seek rehabilitation themselves even if they could succeed at it, the average criminal and even the average murderer knows that the real predator will destroy the host and everyone around them. When a child molester enters prison they are like the pirate, a community that was rife with pedophilia, on the high seas. They are “hostis humani generis” and subject to summary justice.
Perhaps we can get one of our professional staff of headshrinkers to comment on the applicability of terms such as sociopaths and psychopaths. Terms that we have been assured are outmoded in current practice.

I was a little hard on the whiz kids. For the most part, they probably thought that they were in the vanguard of scientific management or some such and honestly believed that they were going to change the world for the better.
I believe that vulture capitalism (or as I’ve been calling it since ’96 — the brokeracracy) is the logical outgrowth of what the whiz kids started. America would be a better place if we had followed something closer to the German and Japanese models and recruited executive talent from the production floor and design offices rather than making CEOs out of clever MBA consultants, lawyers and CPAs.
