WASHINGTON — Former National Security Advisor John Bolton declined to comment on President Donald Trump’s phone conversation with Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, which is at the center of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s impeachment inquiry.
“Did the president abuse his power with the Ukraine call?” Bolton was asked on Monday after his first public speech since he left the Trump administration at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS).
The former U.N. ambassador declined to respond.
Bolton was also asked, “Did you hear the call when you were in the White House? Did you raise any concerns about the call, sir?” He waved to the camera but declined to answer.
According to NBC News, Bolton opposed the call with Zelensky. Bolton also had reportedly advocated for Trump to release about $400 million in military aid to Ukraine that was put on hold in July.
A panel discussion followed Bolton’s speech about North Korea on Monday at CSIS but he was not asked questions about Ukraine.
