Don’t You Just Love Hezbollah? It’s So Interesting…Like Freddie Kruger
As the extraordinary Andy McCarthy points out on The Corner, White House terror “expert” John Brennan–and his boss, President Obama– seem to think that we should be cultivating the “moderate” elements in Hezbollah.
The Obama administration is looking for ways to build up “moderate elements” within the Lebanese Hezbollah guerrilla movement and to diminish the influence of hard-liners, a top White House official said on Tuesday.
Brennan is a long-time CIA officer who was briefly in the running for director of national intelligence, but got blown up by allegations he supported the Bush Administration’s interrogation policies. He landed vertically in the national security council staff. Like most CIA “experts” he doesn’t know much about Hezbollah:
“Hezbollah is a very interesting organization,” Brennan told a Washington conference, citing its evolution from “purely a terrorist organization” to a militia to an organization that now has members within the parliament and the cabinet.
But Hezbollah was never “purely a terrorist organization.” From day minus-one it was designed to create a radical Shi’ite community that would eventually rule Lebanon, and that model has been replicated all over the world, most recently in South America and East Africa. You might want to remember that, as Hezbollah (that is, Iran) extends the range of its murderous activities.
Twenty-five years ago, when I was a purported expert on terrorism, Hezbollah was of considerable interest to our intelligence community, and there was a vigorous debate between those who believed it was a Lebanese phenomenon–the product of local conditions–and those who thought it was a Syrian creation. I posed this question to the infamous Manucher Ghorbanifar–who has been portrayed as a totally unreliable source by CIA–and he just laughed. “Why are you laughing?” say I. “Because Hezbollah is a creation of the Islamic Republic of Iran,” says he. “It’s run out of the prime minister’s office.”
Back in Washington nobody believed it. But he was right. However, our guys are still looking for ways to deny it, or to find ways to wiggle out of its consequences. Obama is always keen to find admirable qualities among the practitioners of the Religion of Peace, and brother Brennan is singing from the official White House hymnal when he talks about those kinder and gentler Hezbos.
He’s even mastered the ungrammatical rhetoric:
There is certainly the elements of Hezbollah that are truly a concern to us what they’re doing. And what we need to do is to find ways to diminish their influence within the organization and to try to build up the more moderate elements.
Maybe Obama should put them under the health care umbrealla.
…but wait there’s more…
Iran has been at war with the USA since Iran took our embassy in 1979…Iran, using Hizbully (Iran’s mercenary army)car bombed our army base in Lebanon in 1982/3 and hijacked our plane and murdered our co-pilot…and never stopped attacking us…
A reasonable person could only conclude from this and other capitulations that (Mosque at ground zero):
The USA has unconditionally surrendered to Iran and the terms are:
1) A few thousand dead Americans, we chose to use Iraq/Afghanistan as the human sacrifice venue.
2) The Islime-ization of the USA…
3) There is slime in the executive branch…

It is almost as if there is a secret protocol that forbids anyone from learning about accommodating and excusing enemies, going all the way back to the 1930s. As a result, imbeciles like Stanley Baldwin and Barack Obama keep buying elections by selling the common defense down the river. Then Churchill has to be called on to get serious with the common defense but in the meantime, many lives perish.
I have my own theory about obama’s attitude towards iran. he has had a long time vendetta against the shah and blames us for his “crimes” – and therefor does this “empathy” thing

Brennan had to receive an ” ethics waiver ” from the White House before he could take his current position. Having access to the entire national security data base one would ask Mr. Brennan if deletions as well as additions are commonplace.
How did Faisel Shazad, who tried to bomb New York’s Times Square become an American citizen after being placed on the ” no fly list “? How did he board that aircraft?
Do the various Saudi contracts that stuff the purse of Mr. Brennans former company, Global Technology, have anything to do with his policy decisions?
There is a disturbing pattern in the Obama White House of officials who are getting rich on Saudi contracts. Brennan and Holder are only the two most prominent.

The inconsequential pursuit for moderates is a function of ‘the models’ replication.
Oh Lord, give me the strength to endure the next 974 days of this horrible nightmare when I can awaken and the world will be right side up again.
I keep hoping that Obama and his clown troupe will come out of the trance they seem to be in, and start seeing Islamic terrorism as the immutable, incorrigible, and demented danger that it really is, but every passing day they fail to do so. In the case of this idiot Brennan, not only do they not come out of their coma, they seem to want to sink deeper into their oblivion and denial.

What I would DEARLY LOVE TO KNOW is exactly what Brennan said in that speech he gave in Arabic at one the Ivy League colleges back in February.
Rush Limbaugh played the speech and at the end Brennan said in English about not repeating / translating anything he had just said to anyone who didn’t already speak the language.
I would guess if someone did get around to translating it, Posner’s sucking up to the Chinese would seem tame in comparison.

No good will or can come out of such attempts. Its like trying to build a perpetual motion machine–the effort is doomed from the onset.
How long before we’re supplying weapons to Hezbollah moderates? Things like anti-aircraft missiles, anti-tank weapons, you know stuff that moderates might need.
Good grief. I suppose when some jihadi operative finally gets lucky (again) and murders a few hundred or a few thousand Americans going about their daily business, these guys will still be nattering on about “outreach” and “building up moderate elements”. For sure they won’t name the attack for what it is: Islamic terrorism.

I must admit, given that originality is not a strong suit amongst those who are wrong, I’m glad that is the case, because less time is wasted wondering who is wrong, and when they are wrong.
The foreign policy (?) of the United States gets worse every day! We will pay

I also want to work out a deal with moderate child molesters, serial killers, and arsonists. Hitler and Stalin could have more moderately wiped out millions of their victims. Moderation can be such a wonderful thing.
If only we could have reached out to the moderates in the Third Reich, all that hubbub could have been avoided.
It might be a misguided attempt to replicate the Sons Of Iraq, where we found common ground with some moderate Sunni elements in Iraq, who decided to switch from supporting the insurgency, to supporting us. The problem is he is searching for these moderates in Hezbolla itself, equavalent in Iraq would have been to search for moderate elements in El Quaida In Iraq. In both El Quaida, and Hezbolla, moderates dont exist. Where he should be searching is among leaders of ordinary people, finding moderate Shiites in Lebanon who want to be free of Hezbola, the Lebaneze equavalent to the moderate Iraqi Sheiks who founded the Sons Of Iraq. They should be asking Gen Petraeus for advice. He did it right in Iraq, so he might know what to do elsewhere.
It is probably as half baked and nutty over at the West Wing, but many respected senior members of the military, including Petraeus, are pursuing this sort of strategy in Afghanistan with the Taliban. Unlike Hezzbollah or Hamas, the Taliban is a rather broad term encompassing various tribes and elements with very different positions and alliances.
We will never win Afghanistan with troops alone. It is too big, too rural, too rugged, and the enemy has a safe haven in Pakistan. We are going to have to convince elements of the Taliban to abandon being affiliated with Al Qaeda. We are engaged in counter insurgency and you have to peal off elements to your side.
There are idiots and fools born every minute. This White House has enough to last until 2012.
Hezbollah are not a terrorist group.
They are a resistance group. Israel attacked them, remember. They exist in response to the earlier invasion and brutal occupation of Lebanon.
Hezbollah have proved to be an effective resistance, and now an effective deterrent to Israeli aggression. Is it any wonder Israel’s neighbours support them? Why shouldn’t they, indeed? Who decreed that all Arab states must be weak and defenseless?
The Arab world has changed greatly. Syria is liberalising, Iraq is a democracy, Arafat is dead, the Palestinians have moderate leadership, Hamas is sidelined. Egypt and Jordan have been at peace with Israel for a long time. 1973 was a long, long time ago.
But Israel continues to act aggressively and paranoid. Trying to whip up a fear campaign against Iran – a historically non-aggressive state, that has a great deal more to fear from Israel and the USA than they do from her.
Israel is the mad dog in the room, and I’m glad that Obama is the one trying to put a leash on it.

The facts are unassailable:
Syria is a vicious military dictatorship with the blood of American troops on its hands. Syria regularly assists/turns a blind eye to terrorists transiting through. It unquestionably was complicit in the assassination of Lebanese PM Hariri. The record on this is incontrovertible.
This alone shows you don’t know much but now let’s turn to Hezbollah and delve fully into the depths of your lack of knowledge. History: Israel was getting rocketed from Palestinians in Lebanon, in 1978, Israel went in and then pulled out. Rocket fire continued, in 1982 Israel went in and began an occupation of south Lebanon that lasted until 2000 when Israel pulled out to the originally recognized border. Even the UN said so.
Hezbollah the announced they don’t recognize the border and have committed a number of attacks which ultimately led up to the 2006 war with Israel. Hezbollah has committed terror attacks all over the world and complicit in the murder of hundreds, perhaps thousands of American soldiers over the years. Most famously they murdered an American sailor on the TWA flight 847 hijack and held seven Americans hostage throughout the 1980s, one Col. William Higgins, is alleged to have been taken to Iran and torture-murdered. As for your moronic claim about support for Hezbollah, Jordan, Egypt and Saudi Arabia all condemned Hezbollah’s role in the 2006 war proving that Hezbollah as the spear to Iran’s regional aggression is so hated and feared that these three Arab countries said little about Israel’s fight against their “brother” Arabs.
As for “mad dog” Israel, Israel has ceded 80% of the land taken in 1967 and offered to pull out of the Golan, the West Bank and parts of Jerusalem to gain peace and recognition. Sorry if she refuses to roll over and die to please people with your opinions but better to be hated and live than be dead and remembered fondly.
Then there is your ignorance about Iran: foremost sponsor terror in the world? check! Ties with al Qaeda? check! Murdered hundreds of US troops in Iraq? check?
And when Iran launches its first nuclear attacks, probably via Hezbollah, Obama will blame Bush.
How long do you think our young people will fight the enemies of this country, before they see that those who maime and murder under the terrorism that is Islam are only a season or two away from dinner at the White House.

Finding “moderates” in Hezbollah is just as likely as peace with “palestinians”. Dream on.
Obama loves Muslims, any Muslim, more than he loves you and me- if that,is not abundantly clear by now. He has stated his learning a new point of view (hating and blaming Israel and USA) at all those dinner parties he attended hosted by Palestinians- HE SHARES THEIR WORLD VIEW- in that view hezbollah is not a terrot org but freedom fighters.
If Obama was really interested in supporting moderates he would have reached out tothe dissenters in IRAN when he had a world class opportunity to make a difference. Or as poster above said, the Druze and Christians in Lebanon that have been cowed into submission by Hezzbos who provoked Israel to destroy Lebanon (in this way IRAN can wage war on ISrael without risking it’s own neck) You cannot kill a snake by rearranging the tail- and he was too blind to see he could have helped crush the HEADOf that snake.

Obama’s new official 44% “rating” is about as real as AGW and “carbon offsets.” His actual “strongly approve” is probably in sync with Congress’. His Israel and foreign policy mess, his national security blindness – including the Hezbo delusions – are costing him and Congress.
A NEW CONFLICT OR WAR ISN’T GOING TO HELP HIM OR CONGRESS, EITHER. The point being, the majority of Americans now realize that Obama and his administration are provocatively weak and inept. His sagging numbers will tank to match unemployment.
Seeking out “moderate” elements of Hezbo is a classic. They’ll be teaching this blunder at West Point in future generations to come.
I gotta a better idea. Let’s form a secret government, conspire to sell arms to Hezzbollah, keep a sweet profit for ourselves, and give what little is left to the South Koreans. If anybody asks, we’ll just say, “those charges are utterly false” or maybe “I don’t recall” or maybe “my heart and my best intentions still tell that’s false.”
