Obama: Taking Your Breath Away, Quite Literally

When Barack Obama was sworn in as president in January of 2009, the London Daily Mail hyperbolically began its report by saying, “History was being made up there on the hill and the atmosphere was so electrifying that it took your breath away.”

These days, Obama is taking your breath away rather more literally: “Obama Administration Set to Ban Asthma Inhalers Over Environmental Concerns,” Mark Hemingway of the Weekly Standard notes.

A more astute president would seize on this latest massive overreach by the EPA as an opportunity for centrist-straddling triangulation, but these days, “astute” is not the first word that comes to mind with this administration. No wonder, in breaking news from 2008 (or maybe 1972), the New Republic is finally figuring out that Obama’s policies are losing centrist Americans.

Though as Jim Geraghty of National Review quips on Twitter, “Think of how much smaller the U.S. carbon footprint will be without all of those asthma sufferers around.” It’s certainly one way to cut down on all those bitter clingers out there in flyover country.

Under ObamaCare, if you like your health plan, you probably won’t be able to keep your health plan. Similarly, if you like your inhaler, you may not be able to keep it either.

But your next of kin will have Al Gore and Barack Obama’s never-ending gratitude, so you’ve got that going for you.

Update: “I can’t breathe! I need my inhaler! I need my inhaler!” Far left anti-free market protestor (with lungs working powerfully enough to scream into the iPhone cams recording him) yells for the asthma inhaler so to be banned by the far-left anti-free market EPA and President Obama, in a YouTube clip found by Kathy Shaidle.
