The video says Isaac’s inner core is “doing fairly well” after the crossing of Haiti’s southern peninsula, and glancing at the satellite loop, it looked that way to me too at first — but now it seems like the core has actually weakened a bit over water just north of the peninsula. There definitely seems to be some dry air coming back into the system, perhaps sucked in from Cuba by Isaac’s large circulation. It also looks like the storm may have taken a bit of a due-north jog. But I may be reading the satellite wrong. (Remember: I’m not a meteorologist. I’m just a layman who’s been watching hurricanes since he was 7.) We’ll have to see what the NHC says at 11:00 AM EDT. I’ll be watching the discussion closely.
