In the below clip, comedian Bill Maher joked that hurricanes are “liberal hoax[es],” and said how excited he is that Rush Limbaugh, Ann Coulter, President Trump, and the Koch brothers all have homes in the way of these storms. He almost gleefully suggested that these Republicans’ homes should get destroyed, because he claims these natural disasters are proof of climate change and that all these people are “deniers.” What was not released in the HBO distributed clip (maybe because even they were embarrassed by his remarks) was when Maher said it “seems a little unfair” that these red states are the ones getting slammed and now need government support. He said:
These places that got flooded, like Texas– okay– they have a low tax base. […] So, the federal government bails them out. Their governors, their legislators they don’t believe in climate science. […] It seems like the responsible folks in this country, the people who pay a little more taxes and the people who believe in climate change are bailing out the people who hate government, except when they need government when they’re in trouble. […] Suddenly, socialism is not such a bad idea when you’re standing in toxic floodwater.
Share on Facebook if you think it’s irresponsible for a media personality to suggest the wholesale destruction of states based on whom they vote for.
Joy Behar joked that we should be naming the hurricanes after climate change deniers, “Hurricane Limbaugh, Hurricane Pruitt, Hurricane Palin, Hurricane Trump…”
