Ashley Judd, a star of the current season of Twin Peaks, is fuming mad that a TSA agent called her “sweetheart” and also said she looked nice. She says this is an example of “everyday sexism,” and claims it made her feel like her skin was crawling and even that she had to pray about the incident. So the first question is whether being complimentary is the same as being sexist. Should TSA agents just be rude to everyone? And the second question is whether Judd’s post minimizes the actual sexism that people deal with. If a company hires or fires someone based on their gender, that is an example of actual sexism. But being called “sweetheart” at an airport?
