Trump Says He Met With 'the President of the Virgin Islands'

After Secretary of State Rex Tillerson supposedly called President Trump a “moron,” Trump dared him to take an IQ test so the two could compare. Trump was also known on the campaign trail for saying things like, “I know words; I have the best words.”

But, although he said some good things at the Values Voter Summit, he slipped up yet again. He said of the natural disasters on the Gulf Coast and in the Caribbean, “They have suffered gravely and we’ll be there. We are going to be there. […] We’re going to be there as Americans.” But he also declared, “I met with the president of the Virgin Islands.”

He would need to look in a mirror to meet the president of the Virgin Islands, because since it is a U.S. territory, he’s their executive too. The Virgin Islands have been a U.S. territory since we bought the land from the Danish in 1917…

It isn’t just that what he said wasn’t very smart, it’s that it shows his lack of knowledge during a major current event. People have looked to President Trump to be more compassionate when dealing with Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. He tweeted about not being able to help P.R. for very much longer because of their financial situation; and news outlets have claimed that the federal recovery efforts in the region are too slow. Is it possible that Trump doesn’t realize that these places are just as much a part of the U.S. as Texas and Louisiana? Maybe this gaffe is telling…
