When President Trump gave his two off-the-cuff statements on Charlottesville, he painted a picture with way too much ethical gray area on neo-Nazis. His middle statement got closer to actually condemning hate groups by name, but then he sank straight back into the moral equivalency heinousness yesterday. Sen. Cory Gardner (R-CO) didn’t act as cowardly as the president did, and actually issued a real condemnation. Gardner said, “It’s about time a**holes with Nazi flags go back into their hole.” This is the kind of statement Republicans should be making. They’re the ones who fought for civil rights, who always fought against the KKK and neo-Nazism. It’s time they pick up that fight once again, regardless of what party the president claims to be in.
