Acting AG Whitaker Cuts off Dem Judiciary Committee Chair: 'Your Five Minutes Is Up'

Acting Attorney General Matthew Whitaker evoked stunned gasps and laughter from onlookers during a contentious House hearing Friday when he told the Democratic chairman his time was up after taking another round of questions regarding special counsel Robert Mueller's Russia probe.

When Chairman Jerrold Nadler (D-N.Y.) asked Whitaker if he'd ever been asked to "approve any request or action to be taken by" Mueller, the acting AG answered, "Mr. Chairman, I see that your five minutes is up, so ...."

"I am here voluntarily," he added. "We have agreed to five-minute rounds."

The retort came after Nadler had chastised Whitaker for evading questions and said that he wanted Whitaker to appear before the committee "in the coming weeks" for a private deposition.

Nadler went on to repeat his question, and Whitaker ultimately responded: “I have not interfered in any way with the special counsel’s investigation.”
