Trump Responds to Clinton's Attack on Gabbard: 'She's Not a Russian Agent'

WASHINGTON -- President Donald Trump defended Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), a Democratic presidential candidate, after former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's recent attack.

Clinton recently said Russia was "grooming" Gabbard for a third party run.

Trump weighed in on Clinton's comments.

"I don't know Tulsi, but she's not a Russian agent. I don’t know Jill Stein. I know she likes environment. I don’t think she likes Russians. If she does like them, I know she’s not a asset. She called her an 'asset' of Russia. These people are sick. There’s something wrong with them," Trump said.

"But I think that Tulsi Gabbard probably got helped quite a bit by this stir. I think we were helped because it shows, for two and half years, we end up winning. I had to go through two and a half years. If she would have done this earlier, people would have realized what a scam it is. Everybody is a Russian or a Russian agent or a Russian asset," he added.

In a Facebook video posted on Sunday, Gabbard addressed Clinton's claim and said she's running for president to take the Democratic Party back from the "corrupt elite."

“People warned me in 2016 that my endorsement of Bernie Sanders would be the end of my quote-unquote political career. They said Clinton would never forget -- that her rich and powerful friends, her allies in politics and in the media, will make sure you are destroyed,” Gabbard said in the video. “But if they can falsely portray me as a traitor than they can do it to anyone."

In the Facebook post that featured the video, Gabbard wrote, "Hillary and her gang of rich, powerful elite are going after me to send a message to YOU: 'shut up, toe the line, or we will destroy you.' But we, the people, will NOT be silenced. Join me in taking our Democratic Party back and leading a government of, by and for the people!"
