Steve Scalise: Harassment of Ted Cruz Shows Liberals Have 'Already Lost the Debate' on Kavanaugh
On Monday night, protesters shouted Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) out of a restaurant in Washington, D.C. They yelled, "We believe survivors!" and "Racist, sexist, anti-gay!" right into his face. Rep. Steve Scalise (R-La.) condemned the harassment, but Senate Democrats and Nancy Pelosi did not respond to PJ Media's requests for comment.
Scalise suggested that the harassment showed Democrats were losing the debate on Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, who has been accused by three separate women of sexual assault. Kavanaugh has denied all the accusations, and an ever-increasing list of would-be witnesses also denied that they took place. (Matt Margolis has the latest denial, exclusively at PJ Media.)
"There’s simply no place for this type of behavior in our country," Scalise told PJ Media. "Our Constitution protects our right to disagree with one another through open debate and by settling our differences at the ballot box — not with intimidation, harassment or threats."
Scalise, who himself barely survived with his life after a shooter targeted the Republican practice for the Congressional Baseball Game last year, suggested that when one side engages in harassment like this, they have already failed to convince the American people.
"When you’re resorting to this type of behavior, you’ve already lost the debate," Scalise told PJ Media.
Perhaps for this reason, Democrat offices refused to respond to repeated requests for comment.
Neither Sen. Cory Booker (D-N.J.), nor Sen. Kamala Harris (D-Calif.), nor Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), nor Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) would condemn the harassment Cruz received. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) also refused to respond when asked for comment.
To be fair, neither Cruz himself nor Sen. Rand Paul (R-Ky.) — who has received death threats and was also caught up in the Congressional Baseball Game shooting — responded, either.
