Bernie Sanders Plans to Give Illegal Aliens Free College Tuition

Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), a 2020 Democratic presidential candidate, said on Friday that his Medicare for all health care plan and his tuition-free public college proposal would cover undocumented immigrants.

“I will not deny that every country on earth that has a national health care program all have problems, that's the nature of health care and a changing technology," Sanders said at a candidate forum in Miami during the annual conference of the National Association of Latino Elected and Appointed Officials (NALEO) on Friday.

"I believe that health care is a human right. When I talk about health care being a human right, last time I heard that undocumented people are human beings as well," he added.

Sanders referred to a recent meeting he had with young undocumented immigrants in California who hesitated to apply to college in the U.S. due to a lack of financial aid.

“We need the best-educated population in the world and that means we’re going to make our public colleges and universities tuition-free, and open that to the undocumented as well,” he said.
