Ocasio-Cortez Blasts Political Moderates, Calls Capitalism 'Irredeemable'
At an appearance before an enthusiastic crowd at SXSW, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez referred to capitalism as "irredeemable," but said that doesn't mean the "actual concept of capitalistic society should be abolished.”
“Capitalism is an ideology of capital –- the most important thing is the concentration of capital and to seek and maximize profit,” Ocasio-Cortez said. And that comes at any cost to people and to the environment, she said, “so to me capitalism is irredeemable.”
Though she said she doesn’t think all parts of capitalism should be abandoned, “we’re reckoning with the consequences of putting profit above everything else in society. And what that means is people can’t afford to live. For me, it’s a question of priorities and right now I don’t think our model is sustainable.”
Instead of conservative politicians scaring people that socialism means the government is going to take over their business, “we should be scared right now because corporations have taken over our government,” she said.
Capitalism as an "ideology" is a ludicrous analysis. So is the rest of her confused, ignorant rant. And if she bothered to actually study what socialism means, she might be surprised to discover it means that "the government is going to take over their business." What's scarier than corporations taking over the government is Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez actually in government.
“The most important thing is the concentration of capital, and it means that we prioritize profit and the accumulation of money above all else, and we seek it at any human and environmental cost… But when we talk about ideas like democratic socialism, it means putting democracy and society first, instead of capital first; it doesn’t mean that the actual concept of capitalistic society should be abolished,” she said.
Don't abolish capitalism but capitalism is "irredeemable"? She reminds me of a 1980s Valley girl -- empty headed, and incoherent.
Here's what she had to say about political moderates:
“Moderate is not a stance. It's just an attitude towards life of, like, ‘meh,’” the New York Democrat said Saturday during an interview with Briahna Gray, senior politics editor for the Intercept. “We’ve become so cynical, that we view ‘meh,’ or ‘eh’ — we view cynicism as an intellectually superior attitude, and we view ambition as youthful naivete when ... the greatest things we have ever accomplished as a society have been ambitious acts of visions, and the ‘meh’ is just worshipped now, for what?”
Where does she get the notion that being a political moderate means being cynical, that moderates don't care about anything?
AOC is the most dangerous politician in America because there will be those who tap into the excitement she is generating among the young to gain power and influence. A recent Harris poll found 73% of millennials and Gen Z favor socialized medicine with almost 50% preferring to live in a socialist country. With those age groups making up 37% of the electorate in 2020, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez's popularity and her dangerous ideas could play a big role in the election.
