L.A. Mayor's 4th of July Warning Backfires, Has People Wanting to Blow Up Watermelons

Eric Garcetti, mayor of Los Angeles and possible future presidential candidate, posted a clip of what could happen if you stick a small firework inside a watermelon.

The public service announcement was anything but a deterrent for Americans who have a fascination with exploding fruit.

“Mayor, you have to admit that blowing up a watermelon with fireworks is pretty [f**king] awesome, though,” Colin Moriarty replied.

“What kind of firework was that? Asking for a friend,” inquired Scott Paterno.

“Awesome! Please provide exact details on firework used. 100% doing that this 4th of July,” declared Chris DeMuth Jr.

“Man, now I want fireworks AND some watermelon,” said Twitter user Tactical Preppie.

The experts also contributed their pyrotechnics knowledge and experience to the public forum.

“Dropping an M60 (the legal baby brother of the M80) in a bucket of water is far more entertaining, though not particularly fun for the bucket,” user Matt suggested.

“As kids we put them in toilets,” @Texas_Eric  reminisced.

There are alternative ways one can destroy a watermelon too, Twitter users demonstrated.

“Fireworks not approved by the state, including cherry bombs, bottle rockets, firecrackers and aerial shells, are illegal to possess, store, use or transport in California. Doing so is punishable by a $1,000 fine and jail time. Selling illegal fireworks and possessing more than 100 pounds of them is a felony,” notes the Los Angeles Times, in addition to reminding residents that fireworks are illegal in the city of Los Angeles.

Happy Independence Day from the Golden State!
