Fergie Botches National Anthem at NBA All-Star Game, Twitter Laughs Out Loud
Fergie is one of the most popular singers in the world. She has had number one hits and her concerts are almost always of an exceptionally high quality. That's why it was rather surprising -- or actually, shocking -- that she succeeded in messing up the national anthem beyond all recognition at the NBA All-Star Game. Her performance was so bad that the players actually laughed at her. And not in a good way.

The contrast between Fergie's confidence and the laughter from the players and the crowd is striking. You'd swear that she was drunk. I hope so, at least. Because if this is Fergie when she's sober, she's got an even more serious problem.
After (and during) Fergie's performance, it didn't take long for Twitter users to make fun of her. And rightfully so. My favorite tweet is this one (with GOAT generally being used for Greatest Of All Time):

Perhaps it was a simple case of mistaken identity:

In any case, the general take was obvious:

The Star-Spangled Banner is not a song that all people can sing well: case in point. pic.twitter.com/4USIZZLX4j

The lesson in all this? When you sing the national anthem, don't try and give it "your own vibe." It's the national anthem. Sing it as it is meant to be sung.
