Does Vindman Have a Ukraine Interest Beyond Foreign Policy?

I interrupted the normal morning routine, and I started to think about one of my own little laws of thought: when you see someone doing something you think is stupid, stop and ask, "what if they are actually smarter than you?" What would explain their actions?

A lot of times, it turns out to be that they're not pursuing the same goals you think they are. One of those things recently is the impeachment inquisition. Of course, we are led to believe that the purpose is to break Trump's lease, but that seems sort of a forlorn hope. And after three years of #Resistance, they have the base in the terminal stages of Trump Dementia to satisfy.

But there's another aspect to this that keeps coming up. We know from that original book about Clinton's campaign that RUSSIA RUSSIA RUSSIA went into top gear in the Clinton machine within hours of realizing they lost the election. And while the perpetual gaslighting has made it hard to see, we're now aware of things like government surveillance of the Trump campaign, and of people associated with Trump, starting almost as soon as Trump announced. We also became aware that the DNC and the Clintons were actually connected to Russian intelligence through a couple of cut-outs, notably Fusion GPS and Perkins Coie — and that literally hundreds of millions of dollars were going into the Clinton Foundation from Russia and Ukraine, and thanks to a 2017 article in Politico, we know that the previous administration in Ukraine was going way out of its way to try and help the Clinton campaign.

So this current effort is tied into Ukraine again, starting with a phone call between Trump and the new president of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, that left LTC Alex Vindman "visibly shaken."

Of course, we've been assured that Vindman is Rambo with an accent (I wish I could say "Rambo with a Russian accent" because alliteration, but it wouldn't be right), a War Hero whose valor is unquestionable ... but I just looked at his service record of awards at Wikipedia, and with the exception of a Purple Heart, almost all of his decorations are of the "I was there" variety. The giveaway is when an award has the word "service" in the title. A Purple Heart — and I don't mean to denigrate it, my father had one too — a Purple Heart is basically an award for being in the trajectory of a piece of fast-moving junk. He's got a CIB, which means you were in combat and in the infantry. He's got a Basic Parachute award, which means he's not smart enough to deplane after the aircraft has landed.

But, you know, let's assume that Vindman is a Tom Clancy hero, jumping from airplanes with a knife in his teeth.

And LTC Rambo Vindman is "visibly shaken" by a call that makes a pretty innocuous request for an investigation?

The more I think about it, the less I buy it. If he was "visibly shaken" it was because something in the call actually put him in danger. But danger of what?

Well ... the investigations suggested were about CrowdStrike and corruption in the previous administration. And Vindman had very close ties to Ukraine in the previous administration. There was some big money going around, money big enough that Hunter Biden's million bucks were pocket change.

Was there something going on other than Vindman's arrogating to himself the right to set foreign policy vis-á-vis Ukraine?
