California Town Cancels Women's March Due to 'Overwhelmingly White' Participants

The Eureka, Calif., Women's March scheduled for January 19 has been canceled because those participating are "overwhelmingly white."

In a press release, the organizers said, "This decision was made after many conversations between local social-change organizers and supporters of the march."

"Up to this point, the participants have been overwhelmingly white, lacking representation from several perspectives in our community," the group said in a press release. "Instead of pushing forward with crucial voices absent, the organizing team will take time for more outreach. Our goal is that planning will continue and we will be successful in creating an event that will build power and community engagement through connection between women that seek to improve the lives of all in our community."

Because, of course, white women aren't interested in improving "the lives of all in our community." They just want to improve the lives of white women.

But what would have happened if the overwhelming majority of participants had been... black? Or Hispanic? Or Asian or lesbian or Native American or transgender?

Celebrate diversity!

It's rare that the rank stupidity of diversity politics is exposed so spectacularly. The issue is women, not race. The belief that too many whites participating means that the march will be less than successful is racist.

How crazy is this? One would assume that "participation" in the march means women walking down the street with signs and then listening to some speechifying from organizers. If they want "diversity," why not get women of different races to address the "overwhelmingly white" marchers? How does walking down the street "improve the lives of all in our community" anyway?

You can't create solidarity by insulting people. And that's just what the organizers have done. They have sent a loud and clear message that their white sisters aren't welcome -- unless they control their numbers so that they aren't so "overwhelming."
