Bystanders Mocked and Taunted Police as Bullets Rained Down Upon Them in Philadelphia

A reporter at the scene of an attack on police officers in Philadelphia said that bystanders were mocking and taunting the police while bullets rained down upon them. The Blaze explains that a video has surfaced of a crowd confronting and even shoving police while they were dealing with a hostage situation.

Even as six police officers were being treated for injuries the attack by a man barricaded inside a home, the neighborhood residents expressed hostility and antagonism against the police. Reporter Alexandria Hoff of CBS-3 Philadelphia reported that she had been harassed along with the officers.

Here's a tweet from the reporter about what she witnessed:

"I mentioned this at 10 and since I was harassed during that live shot, I’ll mention it here too," reporter Alexandria Hoff writes on Twitter. "A major moment of disappointment this evening was watching a crowd of people taunt police officers, laughing and yelling at them in the midst of the gunfire."

During the gunfight, one police officer was shot in the hand while another was shot in the head. Eventually, all injured officers were released from the hospital, but the crowd couldn't have known that they'd survive.

As Twitter-user @BrookelynnML puts it: WTH is wrong with these people? Just look at the footage:

I don't want to even imagine what I would've done if I were a police officer in Philidelphia. I'm sure that I would've done something that would've put me in serious trouble with my superiors.

These kids are lucky that they live in the United States, where insulting a police officer is not a crime. In other countries it is. Take the Netherlands, for example, where such behavior toward a police officer can result in four months of imprisonment and a fine of 4.100 euro ($4,500). Look at the size of this crowd: they could've filled a small prison with these folks.

Sadly, this scum -- because that's what they are -- won't even understand how lucky they are. Quite the opposite is true: they'll continue to spit in the face of their own country -- the very country that guarantees them their freedom despite their despicable behavior.
