At least two members of the public have been killed in the attack, The Guardian reported.

Original story.

London Metropolitan Police closed down London Bridge after a stabbing that injured many people. One man, a suspect, has been shot by police. Authorities are treating the attack "as though it is terror-related."

"Police were called at 1:58pm to a stabbing at premises near to London Bridge," Metropolitan Police reported on Twitter. "Emergency services attended, including officers from the Met and [City Police]. A man has been detained by police. We believe a number of people have been injured."

The police said they were responding to the incident "as though it is terror-related."

About 300 people were on the bridge when the attack took place around "late lunchtime," one eyewitness told the BBC. After what sounded like gunshots, the crowd rushed off the bridge.

London Bridge is not to be confused with the more iconic Tower Bridge (on the far right of this map) or Westminster Bridge, which crosses the Thames in front of Big Ben and Parliament (on the far left of this map).

Brits mocked U.S. news outlets like ABC News, which used a picture of Tower Bridge to report on the London Bridge attack.

This is a breaking story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
