Milano seems to be ignorant of the fact that a relationship, even a consensual one, between a member of Congress and a staffer violates House ethics rules. But there's another problem with her statement as well. Apparently Milano thinks there's a double standard between male and female members of Congress. She couldn't be more wrong.
The only reason Alyssa Milano believes Hill's resignation wasn't "fair" is because Hill is a Democrat who was seen as having a bright future in the party. This wasn't about what Hill did in "in her private time that was consensual," as Milano put it, but because of her violating House ethics rules—rules that have indeed been enforced on men. There are ample reasons to believe that there is a double standard, however, but not because of gender. I recently compiled 17 examples of Democrats who weren't held accountable for their actions,
despite corrupt, illegal, or unethical behavior
—but I don't recall hearing Alyssa Milano whining about that.
Despite the fact Hill had clearly violated House ethics rules and did the right thing by resigning, Alyssa "MeToo" Milano stands in solidarity with Hill. "I really appreciate Katie Hill and where she was coming from in resigning but I do wish that she would have fought a little harder. I would have fought by her side.”
