Man Who Straw Purchased Weapons for San Bernardino Massacre Linked to California Jihadi Group

FILE - In this Dec. 21, 2015 courtroom file sketch, Enrique Marquez Jr. appears in federal court in Riverside, Calif. Marquez, who faces charges for buying the rifles used in the San Bernardino attack, is asking that his trial be moved from July to March 2017. In a Friday, April 29, 2016 filing in federal court, attorneys for Marquez say there's too much evidence involved to make a July trial practical or fair to their client. (Bill Robles via AP, File)

Enrique Martinez Jr., the man accused of buying the weapons used in the San Bernardino massacre, had ties to a California jihadi group, federal prosecutors claim.

The guns used in the massacre were modified and illegal in California and, of course, we know that straw purchasing weapons is illegal so it’s safe to say several laws were broken and felonies committed even before the first bullet was fired at the County Health Department. It’s important to remember this as the the anti-gun movement uses the massacre to push for more laws than only cripple law-abiding citizens and are disregarded by homicidal maniacs.

The connection of Martinez Jr. to other jihadi terror groups was first made in a document filed with the court on Tuesday. The jihadis referenced were arrested in 2012 when they tried to fly to Afghanistan and join Al-Qaeda.

“During this period, Marquez had ties to a group of jihadists (‘California jihadists’) who were arrested in 2012 when they attempted to travel to Afghanistan to join al-Qaida,” the suit said.

The suit did not have any other details about Marquez’ relationship with these other terrorists and the U.S. Attorney’s Office would not comment further on the filing.

Are we to believe that Marquez Jr. just happened to find himself involved with another bunch of jihadis or are we finally going to admit this wasn’t some inexplicable “lone wolf” operation?
