When President Barack Obama came into office, he rolled back President Bush’s counter-terrorism policies and arrogantly declared that the Global War on Terror was over. To counter “violent extremism,” the Obama administration was less intrusive on Muslim terror suspects and much more intrusive on innocent Americans. Would-be jihadists were treated to counter-extremism community programs and those who acted on their jihadist predilections were dealt with in U.S. courtrooms. Meanwhile, it looked like the Obama administration’s “Countering Violent Extremism” (CVE) doctrine was designed to shield Islam and Muslims from scrutiny, while encouraging crackdowns on domestic “right-wing extremists.”
Ordinary American citizens were subjected to heightened TSA screenings, as long lines, naked scanners and humiliating pat-downs became SOP at our nation’s airports.
After seven-plus years of this, the verdict is in: The counter-terrorism policies of the Obama administration have been an abysmal failure. While he was focused on ending wars, closing Gitmo and dismantling Bush’s counter-terrorism policies, terrorism in the homeland spiked.
Here is a tally of terrorist attacks on U.S. soil that have taken place since Obama took office in January of 2009. Not all of the attacks listed here resulted in fatalities, and some of them are small-scale attacks most people never heard about.
