Is Mubarak's Soviet military training emerging with his use of Stasi-like thugs?

Why does the use of paid pro-Mubarak thugs throwing Molotov cocktails have all the feel of an Eastern European Soviet satellite state operation?

Remember Mubarak is a product of Soviet military schools and was very close to the Soviet air force over most of his military career. From February 1959 to June 1961 Mubarak attended the Soviet pilot training school in Moscow where he was trained on the LU-28 and Tupolev Tu-16 jet bomber. Maybe he is reflecting that which only comes naturally as a former Soviet-trained officer.

So today he orders his military to stand aside while his East German Stasi-like intelligence force of thugs foments chaos. Is this reminiscent of the heavy hand of Soviet satellite states?
