Can you believe that the hoopla surrounding the Gosselin sextuplets started 13 years ago? Yes, those adorable little boys and girls are teenagers now. Their mom, and star of Kate Plus 8, recently threw a camp-themed bash for her kids. But when she spoke about the celebration, she got emotional. It turns out that one of the sextuplets, Collin, was not there for the second year in a row.
E! News reports:
As the mom of eight confirmed to People last summer, her son has special needs and has been away at a program designed to help him gain better “life skills.”
Despite Collin’s absence, the family carried on during the premiere episode aired on Monday night. While the boys, Aaden and Joel, had fun with a scavenger hunt and cooking over a camp fire, the ladies, Alexis, Hannah and Leah, enjoyed mani-pedis and arts and crafts.
Kate had this to say on the show:
“This year, much like last year, the difference is that Collin wasn’t there. I am comforted with the fact that my kids, all of them, each unique child, is receiving exactly what they need. And that hasn’t changed. It’s a bittersweet moment. We’ve had many of them. You can’t do anything without realizing he’s missing. We may not say it, but it’s always there.”
Kate and her ex-husband, Jon, also have twin daughters, Cara and Madelyn, who are 16 years old.
