While appearing on ABC’s Good Morning America to discuss his new book War on Peace, Ronan Farrow told host George Stephanopoulos one surprising tidbit about doing his research:
“The honest answer is one of the most surprising beats was how hard it was to get some people on the record,” Farrow said. He continued, “Hillary Clinton had scheduled an interview while I was at the height of the Weinstein reporting and her folks got in touch and said ‘We hear you’re working on a big story,’ sounded very concerned and tried to cancel that interview.”
“Over the Weinstein stuff?” Stephanopoulos said.
“Over the Weinstein stuff,” Farrow replied.
Clinton did eventually reschedule the interview, but this doesn’t look good for the former presidential candidate.
The Clinton family had a long, close relationship with Weinstein. Additionally, two people later came forward claiming Hillary had been warned about Weinstein being a rapist, yet she refused to cut ties with him.
Canceling the interview in retaliation for Farrow uncovering the allegations against Weinstein doesn’t paint Clinton well at all. This is especially true when you consider that she has built her entire career around the image of being a modern feminist and a role model for young women looking to break the “glass ceiling.”
Riding to fame as the wife of a serial cheater and accused rapist who paid a near $1M settlement to yet another victim while referring to the women as “bimbos” and “liars” never seemed to fit with that.
Protecting Harvey Weinstein certainly does, though.
Of course, a hypocritical politician is hardly anything new.
Notably, Stephanopoulos tried to change the subject quickly. Stephanopoulos was a close advisor to President Bill Clinton, and has maintained close ties to the Clintons since leaving the White House. Farrow’s comment was a potential bombshell of a revelation; Stephanopoulos didn’t want to explore it further.
