Prepare for the Worst Gaslighting on the Economy Yet

I can still remember how the Biden-Harris administration gaslit the entire country for years, claiming that the economy was great. The White House pushed the comical “Bidenomics” narrative, genuinely thinking it would convince Americans that the economy was thriving under Joe Biden. That strategy fell flat, yet the mainstream media is once again trying to sell the idea that everything is just fine.

Despite the administration’s insistence that “Bidenomics is working,” the public didn’t buy it because people can see with their own eyes and bank accounts that the Biden-Harris economy is garbage. It was no surprise that the White House failed to change the perceptions of the public, and it quietly dropped the term.

When was the last time you heard anyone connected to the White House mention “Bidenomics”? It’s clear that the narrative was toxic, and Kamala Harris knows it, which is why she’s avoiding it entirely. Instead, her economic message is simply that “there’s more work to do.”

It’s amazing to think how long the White House bombarded us with claims of falling inflation, rising wages, and historic job growth when the reality on the ground told a different story.

As Harris positions herself as the “change” candidate, she won’t dare embrace Bidenomics or the status quo. Now the media is stepping in to take over the gaslighting effort, attempting to push the narrative that the economy is thriving, and it’s just as insulting as it was when the White House was doing it.

“Harris is riding a dream economy into the election,” Politico claimed Thursday.

While Politico is eager to declare that “the price spikes that have clouded President Joe Biden’s four-year term are over,” most of us are still dealing with the fallout from years of rising costs — which are still up significantly compared to when Donald Trump left office and the Biden-Harris regime began.

Politico even acknowledges that “consumers still feel squeezed by higher prices” but tries to brush it off by saying the economy is resilient. But nothing has changed over the past few years that going to make Americans receptive to this bogus narrative. Middle-class families who have struggled to make ends meet for the past three and a half years are still struggling, no matter what the headlines say.

Politico attempts to paint a picture of a robust economy by boasting about the unemployment rate of 4.1%, even though it is still higher than it was pre-pandemic, and that the rate of inflation has slowed, even though cumulative inflation is up roughly 20% compared to the Trump years.

Carly Cooperman, a Democratic pollster, pointed out that “voters still feel that day-to-day costs are expensive,” and admits that there’s “a limit to how much improvement this news will bring for” Harris. Even Politico had to concede that “81 percent of people still consider inflation a major concern.” Despite the rosy picture it tried to paint, the numbers just don’t align with the reality of most Americans’ lives.

I guess Politico is hoping that people just read the headlines and feel better about the economy.

At the end of the day, this kind of economic gaslighting from the media isn’t going to work. No matter how much Politico and other outlets push the narrative that inflation is under control and the economy is improving, Americans will continue to trust their own eyes and experiences.
