You’d think the gay community would worship “Harry Potter” author J.K. Rowling.
She’s not only a first-rate storyteller, but she retroactively dubbed key Potter player Albus Dumbledore as gay.
Rowling’s answer to a fan’s query on the subject got retweeted more than 6,000 times last year. From The Telegraph:
Yesterday, a fan named Ana Kovovic took to Twitter to query Rowling’s decision, asking the author: “I wonder why you said that Dumbledore is a gay because I can’t see him that way?”
Rowling’s response? “Maybe because gay people just look like… people?”
She deemed Hogwarts, the school where Harry Potter and his chums studied, as a LGBT-friendly space for students of all ages. She even shared this on her Twitter account:

That was then. Now, Potter fans are aghast that Rowling refuses to make another critical character in the franchise gay.
Gay rights proponents insisted Sirius Black, memorably played by Gary Oldman in several “Potter” films, is a homosexual.
Only Rowling seemed to suggest that wasn’t the case. This is her world, and she sets the rules.
That wasn’t good enough. Social media activists decried the news. Suddenly, goodwill toward the LGBT community disappeared.
The hashtag #JKRowlingIsOverParty took over. Some defended Rowling, while others excoriated her for not deeming Sirius Black gay. The author shouldn’t be surprised. Not even the most liberal stars are immune to the Social Justice Warriors of late.

They’ve gone after Tina Fey, Amy Schumer, Will Ferrell and other stars for perceived slights.
All well-established liberals. That didn’t matter.
Ferrell’s “Get Hard” comedy was deemed racist. Schumer’s material was called into question for racial stereotypes. And Fey’s “Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt” included a Native American subplot that some found offensive.
Recently, Lena Dunham, one of the most liberal stars in the galaxy, had to backtrack after an ill-advised description of meeting New York Giants star Odell Beckham, Jr.
The irony is that Rowling insists she didn’t directly address Sirius Black’s sexual preferences. Someone read some online comments she made and interpreted them that way.
Rowling kept a stiff upper lip during the social media imbroglio despite enduring, in her words, “a ton of abuse.” She also changed her Twitter profile and promised not to be so “flip” with her answers in the future.
She also should know she won’t please everyone with her Potter answers. And those disagreeing with her can get ugly.
