8 Fun Ideas to Help You Embrace Fall's Goodness

This past Labor Day weekend, many of us on the East Coast were spared the wrath of Tropical Storm Hermine. Instead, what we got were sunny skies, and a beautiful cool breeze. It was exactly what we needed after a seemingly unending bout of heat and humidity. Another day of 90 degree weather with 97% humidity and I would have thrown in the towel. But just like that, it felt like fall was in the air.

Autumn is hands down my favorite season. It gives us a welcome break from the summer heat, and preps us for the holiday season. Sure, not many people love the months of snow and freezing temperatures that follow fall, but for those handful of weeks when you can wear a light jacket and boots, you can’t go wrong. When I lived in Los Angeles for five of years, I craved cooler weather and changing leaves every September through November. I even threw a fall-themed party on a day that was 85 degrees. But now that I’m back east, I couldn’t be happier that the season is beginning to change.

I thought it would be fun to explore all the ways in which we can embrace autumn. Check out the ideas below so that you can throw a great cider party, or give your home some accents that feel festive. Even something as simple as candles can make a world of difference. Enjoy!

You can find these everywhere, and they’re usually pretty cheap. Have fun playing with different fall colors, textures, and dried or fake leaves and flowers.

2. Apple Cider Bar

With just a few simple ingredients, you can have your house smelling of delicious mulled cider. This tasty hot beverage is great for anyone, but make sure you have some bourbon or brandy handy for the adults who want to make their drink a little more interesting.

If you’re like me, you have tons of extra vases lying around. Next time you’re at the market, pick up a bunch of mini pumpkins and fill them up! The pumpkins last for a really long time, so you won’t need to worry about them rotting. You can definitely enjoy this decor until Thanksgiving.

4. Pumpkin Bowl

When you grab your pumpkins for your house, make sure you get one the size of a medium bowl. That way you can hollow it out and use it for dip! It’s a simple, inexpensive, and beautiful way to incorporate the season’s mascot into your gathering.

5. Mmmm…Cinnamon!

Just grab some plain white candles, a bunch of cinnamon sticks and some twine and you have a beautiful, fragrant centerpiece for your next party.

Not that we need an excuse to eat delicious food, but you can have friends over and spend time decorating (and eating) different types of candied apples. This is a great option if you have kids as well.

8. Candy Corns as Decorations

I’m personally not a fan of eating candy corns, but they certainly are festive. Grab those mason jars and fill them halfway with the colorful treat. It’s a fun way to present your cutlery when you have guests over.
