Garry Shandling Dead of Heart Attack at 66

TMZ is reporting that actor and comedian Garry Shandling has died in an Los Angeles hospital:

Sources familiar with the situation tell TMZ Shandling died from a massive heart attack, with no prior warning whatsoever.

Shandling was known for his dry, meandering wit. He was a comedian’s comedian, often working behind the scenes as a writer. Younger audiences likely know him best from his role as the traitorous Senator Stern in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But the rest of his filmography is worth perusing. In particular, the Mike Nichols-directed 2000 comedy What Planet Are You From? showcases Shandling’s skill at playing the awkward outsider.
