It is not that real men can’t be romantic. But, there has to be more to a movie than just sharing feelings and staring longingly into baby blue eyes.

Instead, here is a list of films for a cozy night on the couch that will end with snuggling rather than snoozing.

8. King Kong (1933)

The film that started it all. With a straight face, any guy could grab his girl and go to the Saturday afternoon matinee claiming there was something in the movie for the both of them. When filmmaker Carl Denham (Robert Armstrong) convinces Anne (Fay Wray) to travel to the mysterious Skull Island in the South Seas, who would guess she would wind up with not one suitor, but two? The ship’s first mate, Jack Driscoll (Bruce Cabot), takes a hankering to her—so does the biggest monster on Monster Island. It is the kind of love triangle only a guy could love. This landmark action films is still as entertaining as ever (much better than the remakes in 1976 and 2005). The old line never gets old. “It was beauty killed the beast.

7. The African Queen (1951)

Straight-laced Rose (Katharine Hepburn) thought she would spend the rest of her life helping her brother run an orphanage in Africa. The Germans had other ideas. She winds up with the drunkard riverboat captain Charlie (Humphrey Bogart). They run rapids, fight imperial gunboats and fall in love. In the end, Charlie yells that immortal line, “We made it.” This is a classic film worth watching.

6. The Thomas Crown Affair (1968)

Handsome millionaire playboy thief Thomas Crown (Steve McQueen) matches wits with a good-looking insurance investigator (Faye Dunaway). Of course, they fall in love. Guys will like the movie anyway.  If you want to dance in the dark, turn off the tube and listen to the soundtrack. The remake (1999) with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo wasn’t bad, either.

5. Romancing the Stone (1984)

The movie that rebooted the action-romance genre. Spinster romance novelist Joan Wilder (Kathleen Turner) teams with smuggler Jack Colton (Michael Douglas), recreating the Bogart-Hepburn movie magic in a wild Colombian jungle adventure. Rescue sister. Find fabulous diamond. Fight off crocodiles and contract killers. Trust me, no one will fall asleep before the credits roll.

4. The Last of the Mohicans (1992)

“Stay alive….I will find you,” Hawkeye (Daniel Day-Lewis) pleads with Cora (Madeleine Stowe) as she is dragged off by vengeful Huron warriors. It is a love story, but it is in the middle of the violence and turmoil of the French and Indian War so it is still watchable. If you want to turn the lights off—just listen to the stirring, magisterial soundtrack.

3. Braveheart (1995)

If she is not paying too much attention, a clever significant other might be able to slip this one in. It has maybe two minutes of romance at the beginning and the end sandwiching a guy-pleasing, rousing action flick. The English murder the one true love of William Wallace (Mel Gibson), triggering a Scottish uprising. It is all 14th century mayhem, as Mel spends the rest of the film slicing and dicing adversaries. In the end, his enemies run him down. Mel gets one last moment of love before Wallace gets the axe.

2. Mr. and Mrs. Smith (2005)

John (Brad Pitt) and Jane (Angelina Jolie) Smith are not who they seem. After they fall in love and marry (boring part), they discover they are competing super spies assigned to assassinate each other. The result is not only an entertaining action flick, but a real-life romance between Pitt and Jolie that has resulted in years of employment for tabloid journalists.

1. Stardust (2007)

In a parallel universe, Tristan (Charlie Cox) hooks up with a falling star-turned-cutie (Claire Danes) and they kick witch ass. The film is a little bit of Snow White meets Mad Max. There are sword fights and chases, so guys will totally be cool with this.

What did I miss? Guys only, please reply.
