TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE (CONT’D): Man walks free from Hong Kong court after daughter admits making up rape allegations against him.. “The 15-year-old told the High Court she had lied out of anger over the father’s favouritism towards her brother, going as far as faking medical evidence. TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): 2018 Sex Scandal Teacher Starting Lineup.

In 300 B.C., Aristotle famously said, “Those that know, do. Those that understand, teach.” In 1933, Albert Einstein said, “Teaching should be such that what is offered is perceived as a valuable gift and not as a hard duty.” And in 2018, 53-year-old teacher Deborah Lowe said to her 15-year-old student, “Who else can I be a slut with?”

Who else, indeed? That time is upon us once again. When we look back at the year just past in Sex Scandal Teachers, a tradition truly unlike any other.

As far as I can tell, the first Sex Scandal Teacher Starting Lineup was back in 2009. Like I’ve mentioned before, I thought to myself, “Gee, there’s been a lot of crazy teachers sleeping with their students lately,” and just to put a sports spin on it, organized them into a batting order. I figured it would be a one-off thing. Because surely there couldn’t be an endless supply of these stories, like the sex-crazed educator version of the unlimited, refillable fountain drink. But how wrong I was. A day or two later, a Stoolie emailed me one I’d missed. Then came another. And another. So I made Grading the Newest Sex Scandal Teacher into a regular feature, with a lineup at the end of the year.

And there’s never a shortage of material.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (FEMALE RAPE-CULTURE EDITION): Teacher who had sex with student should get off easy because he wanted it: lawyers.

Peterson, who previously taught at New Smyrna Beach Middle School, pleaded guilty in October to lewd and lascivious battery sex act with a child and electronic transmission of material harmful to minors, admitting that she had sex with an eighth-grader in her car and gave him oral sex in her home and in a barn behind his home between November 2017 and last January, court documents show.

Peterson could have been sentenced to up to 20 years in prison if convicted of both felonies at trial, but she now faces between five and 10 years behind bars when she’s sentenced Wednesday at a courthouse in DeLand.

As part of that plea deal, Peterson’s attorneys will be allowed to seek a lesser sentence for the disgraced former teacher, and one of the reasons they cited is that the teen victim was a “willing participant” in the sexual assaults, during which he was legally unable to provide consent under state law.

But at least one law professor contacted by the newspaper disagreed with that strategy, since the legal age of consent in the Sunshine State is 18.

“The child is below the age of legal consent for sexual activity with an adult, so the fact that they were a willing participant, in my mind, is actually an escalator,” Stetson College of Law Professor Charlie Rose told the newspaper. “It’s an indication that perhaps the child was manipulated into engaging in sexual activity. It does not make the crime less culpable.”

To be honest, I think 18 is a bit high as the age of consent, but no male teacher would get less time with a “Your Honor, she wanted it!” argument regarding an eighth grader, and sauce for the goose. . .

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! (CONT’D): How a selfie saved a Texas man from 99 years in prison.

She said he broke into her home in Temple.

She said he sliced an “X” into her chest with a box cutter.

She said it happened on Sept. 20, 2017 around 7:20 p.m.

She was his high school girlfriend. The two dated several years earlier, but he couldn’t remember the last time the two had contact.

Now Precopia was facing a felony charge: burglary of a habitation with the intent to commit other crimes.

“I had no idea why everything was happening, and I was lost,” he said.

Precopia was taken to the Williamson County Jail, where his parents posted a $150,000 bond. Then they began fighting to prove his innocence. . . .

On the night of the alleged attack, he was with his mother, Erin, at a Northwest Austin hotel about 65 miles from the accuser’s home.

“I’m thinking, ‘this is awesome. By the grace of God, she said it happened on the day when I can say totally, 100 percent, where he was at,” Erin Precopia said.

There were sworn affidavits from several people who were with him that evening.

There were pictures to prove it, and they were posted on Facebook. Timestamped. Geo-located.

An alibi.

“Most of the time, we deal with gray matters,” attorney Rick Flores said. “It’s not normally black or white. But this is one of those cases where I could definitely prove he did not commit this offense.” . . .

Precopia’s accuser told police that the two had a troubled relationship when they dated in high school several years ago, and she cited that as a reason she reported that he assaulted her.

How many men, in the absence of such fortuitous evidence, are doing jail time for equally false charges?

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE (CONT’D): Woman Cries Rape After Man Refuses To Drive Her Home. “An upstate New York woman has been charged with false reporting of a crime after police say she claimed she was raped. In reality, she was angry at the man because he wouldn’t give her a ride home. Jessica Gallagher, 27, met a man on a dating app and told police that he abducted, blindfolded, and raped her. Police say she later admitted that she made up the false rape claim because the man refused to drive her home.”

MAYBE THIS WILL TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: College student sues woman for $6million claiming her false rape accusation at a frat party has destroyed his life.

Catherine Reddington, 22, has claimed repeatedly via social media that Alex Goldman raped her following a party in April last year at Syracuse University’s Delta Kappa Epsilon fraternity in upstate New York.

She informed police and the university of the rape accusations in the days after the party and has taken to social media several times in the past month to reveal the details of her alleged assault.

Goldman, also 22, was expelled from Syracuse University after the claims surfaced and more recently was fired from his summer internship with an engineering firm when his accuser informed them of the allegations.

He was never arrested or charged over the incident.

‘During the early hours of April 23, 2017 I was raped and sodomized. I woke up in Delta Kappa Epsilon Fraternity in Alex Goldman’s bed confused, bloody, bruised, with ripped clothing and splinter,’ Reddington wrote on Facebook on June 4.

‘Alex Goldman is a rapist.’

A police investigation into the allegations found no evidence that Reddington had been raped or even had a sexual encounter with Goldman that night.

The investigation, which involved a medical exam and rape kit within 26 hours of the alleged incident, found Reddington had no internal cuts or abrasions in her vagina and that there was no traces of Goldman’s DNA.

Six million dollars would be nice, but where does Goldman go to get his reputation back?

Semen recovered from the woman, identified in court records as “the complainant,” did not belong to the accused. The prosecution’s case relied solely on her testimony, which was inconsistent, court records show. Defence attorneys argued that the case was poorly investigated and that the complainant, a recovering crack addict, fabricated the story to protect her boyfriend, who shot Perry two months earlier and was wanted by the police, court records show. Still, in 1992, a jury convicted Counts and Perry on all counts except for the weapons charges.”

But: “Last month, nearly three decades later, the woman told investigators that Perry and Counts were innocent and that the rape ‘never happened.’ . . . By then, Perry had served nearly 11 years in prison before being released in 2001; Counts, who was released in August, had served 26 years behind bars.”

Seems like there’s no reason to keep her name secret now.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): Silicon Valley’s Favorite Prison Reformer Accused of Sexual Assault and Harassment.

Defy settled a complaint brought by a female former employee who said Hoke “reached her hand up the employee’s skirt twice at a company party,” according to Gordon’s letter to prison officials.

“The employee signed an NDA [nondisclosure agreement] prohibiting her from disclosing the incident or the existence of the NDA to anyone except the CEO, her husband or the COO,” Gordon’s letter continued. “Two employees who witnessed the assault were forced to relinquish their personal mobile phones and passwords” and were questioned by an attorney from Gordon & Rees.

The lawyer involved did not comment on the allegations. A former employee who spoke with The Daily Beast supported Gordon’s claims that two witnesses had been made to surrender their phones.

It wasn’t the only time Hoke was accused of sexual harassment at Defy.

A former Defy client, Kenneth Maxwell, sued Hoke in 2015 alleging he was forced out of the program over his “refusal to consummate a personal and sexual relationship” with Hoke, according to his complaint. The lawsuit was dismissed after Maxwell failed to serve defendants with a summons and complaint.

Another female employee told The Daily Beast Hoke sexually harassed her during a business trip in 2014, insisting the woman share a bed with her.

#TimesUp.

50 YEARS OF WAGING WAR AGAINST THE VERY IDEA, AND NOW. . . . America Needs More Gentlemen:

All the stories we’ve read the past few months about predators—not those accused of rape and sexual assault, which are crimes, but of general piggishness, grabbiness, manipulation and power games—have a common thread. The men involved were not gentlemen. They acted as if they’d never heard of the concept.

We have lost track of it. In the past 40 years, in the movement for full equality, we threw it over the side. But we should rescue that old and helpful way of being. The whole culture, especially women, needs The Gentleman back.

A person of the cultural left would say that is a hopelessly patriarchal thing to say. But one thing the #MeToo movement illustrates is that women are often at particular risk in the world, and need friends and allies to stand with them. That would be men. And the most reliable of them are gentlemen. . . .

David Gandy, a fashion model, wrote a few years ago in London’s Telegraph that his work had taught him “being a gentleman isn’t about what you do or what you wear, it’s about how you behave and who you are.” A gentleman “holds chivalry and politeness in great regard. He holds the door for people; he gives up his seat; he takes off his coat to a lady on a cold evening.” These are old-fashioned actions, but a gentleman still holds to them “even though the world has changed.”

Yes, a gentleman does.

A man once told me it’s hard to be a gentleman when fewer of the women around you seem interested in being ladies. But that’s when you should step up your gentleman game. We are all here to teach and inspire.

I know I keep saying this, but the thing about chivalry is, it’s a system. It’s not just a bunch of rules for men that are designed to benefit women. It’s an entire social approach that lays expectations on women too. Overthrowing those very expectations was at the core of the feminist project. And now the response to the consequences thereof is that . . . men should try harder?

To be fair, that’s the response to pretty much all gender issues these days. Which is also part of the problem.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Rodney Anderson latest example of #MeToo movement gone too far.

While I was skeptical of the allegations, it’s not popular in 2017 to defend someone accused of rape. Facts be damned. So I would typically stumble through a couple of sentences and say something along the lines of, “Yea, it’s definitely not good. I guess we will have to see what happens exactly.” . . .

That was as far as I could go to defend Anderson, even though I wasn’t buying the accusations at the time.

Unfortunately, an allegation is now a guilty verdict in the public eye. That’s where we’ve gone too far in the other direction.

The news of Anderson’s rape accusation shocked the college football world, but notice the fact that charges were never filed, the accuser dropped her victim protection order, and then the latest report that she was allegedly doing this for a future political career did not gain nearly the attention that the initial accusation did.

NO one in my media circles have asked me about the story since the actual FACTS have come out and the story has unfolded as it did. No one littered me with questions about Cleveland County district attorney Greg Mashburn saying, “Definitely charges are not warranted under these circumstances.” No one asked me about Anderson passing a three-hour long polygraph test.

No one asked me about this latest report in The Oklahoman, which included the following:

One friend told police Thornton had said “this would be a ‘great thing’ for her political career following the Air Force,” The Oklahoman has learned. The friend told police Thornton had said “female-empowered political organizations would love something like this.”

That’s sick. Frankly, it’s just as sick as someone committing an act of sexual misconduct. Both people are trying to ruin someone else’s life.

There should be jail for false accusations.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Accused man who went through “mental torture”: “I feel betrayed by the system which I had believed would do the right thing.”

Liam Allan, 22, spent almost two years on bail and three days in the dock at Croydon crown court before his trial was halted yesterday.

The judge demanded a review of disclosure of evidence by the Metropolitan Police, Britain’s biggest force, and called for an inquiry at the “very highest level” of the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). He warned of the risks of “serious miscarriages of justice” after hearing that, to save costs, material was not always handed to defence lawyers.

Mr Allan, a criminology undergraduate at Greenwich University, had been warned that he would be jailed for at least ten years if found guilty after being charged with six rapes and six sexual assaults against a woman who told police that she does not enjoy sex. Mr Allan said the sex was consensual and that the woman was acting maliciously because he would not see her again after he started university.

His lawyers had repeatedly been refused access to records from the woman’s telephone because police insisted that there was nothing of interest for the prosecution or defence, the court was told.

When a new prosecution barrister took over the case the day before the start of the trial, he ordered police to hand over any telephone records. It was revealed that they had a computer disk containing copies of 40,000 messages.

They showed that she continued to pester Mr Allan for “casual sex”, told friends how much she enjoyed it with him and discussed her fantasies of being raped and having violent sex. . . .

Julia Smart, for the defence, said she received the details of the woman’s text messages on the evening before she was due to cross-examine her, so stayed up reading them. When she told the court what she had found, the trial was halted. She said she believed that evidence from phones was being withheld from defence lawyers to save money.

Alison Saunders, the director of public prosecutions, has pushed to increase the prosecution and conviction of sexual offences.

It wasn’t about saving money, and people should be jailed for this.

It will be up to a judge to decide whether to grant 19-year-old Nikki Yovino a pretrial diversionary program that could result in the charges being dismissed against Yovino at a hearing set for Sept. 8. Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Craig Nowak said he is going to object. . . . Agustin Sevillano, the lawyer for the now-former football players, who are not being identified, described what his clients went through as a result of Yovino’s rape allegations. They were scheduled for a school disciplinary hearing but, on the advice of legal council, agreed instead to withdraw from the university rather than face the chance of being expelled and having that on their records. He said one of his clients lost a football scholarship. They have also had to live with the stigma of being accused rapists, he said.”

In February, then-18-year-old Yovino was charged with falsely reporting an incident and tampering with or fabricating evidence.

Police alleged Yovino made up the rape story last October to gain the sympathy of a prospective boyfriend because she worried he would lose romantic interest in her when it became known she had sex with two football players in a bathroom during an off-campus party.

The players told police they had consensual sex with Yovino and were eventually cleared in the case. . . .

Other students who were at the party later confirmed to police that Yovino was seen following the two men into the bathroom willingly.

Another witness said he overheard Yovino telling the men she wanted to have sex with them, according to an affidavit.

When pressed by police about the inconsistences in her story, Yovino allegedly confessed, saying she had made up the rape allegations.

The affidavit stated: ‘She admitted that she made up the allegation of sexual assault against (the football players) because it was the first thing that came to mind and she didn’t want to lose (another male student) as a friend and potential boyfriend.

‘She stated that she believed when (the other male student) heard the allegation it would make him angry and sympathetic to her.’

Hylton, along with three men and three other women, kidnapped 62-year-old real-estate broker Thomas Vigliarole and held him for ransom, before eventually killing him. As noted in a 1995 Psychology Today article, when asked about forcibly sodomizing the victim with a three foot steel pole, Hylton replied: “He was a homo anyway.”

Speaking about Hylton, New York City Detective William Spurling told Psychology Today: “I couldn’t believe this girl who was so intelligent and nice-looking could be so unemotional about what she was telling me she and her friends had done. They’d squeezed the victim’s testicles with a pair of pliers, beat him, burned him.”

According to that same article, Hylton delivered a ransom note to a friend of Vigliarole’s asking for more than $400,000, even though the victim was already dead by that point.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! The Understudied Female Sexual Predator: According to new research, sexual victimization by women is more common than gender stereotypes would suggest.

Today, the fruits of that research were published in another peer-reviewed paper, “Sexual Victimization Perpetrated by Women: Federal Data Reveal Surprising Prevalence.” Co-authored with Andrew Flores and Ilan Meyer, it appears in Aggression and Violent Behavior. Once again, federal survey data challenged conventional wisdom.

“These surveys have reached many tens of thousands of people, and each has shown internally consistent results over time,” the authors note. “We therefore believe that this article provides more definitive estimates about the prevalence of female sexual perpetration than has been provided in the literature to date. Taken as a whole, the reports we examine document surprisingly significant prevalence of female-perpetrated sexual victimization, mostly against men and occasionally against women.”

Those conclusions are grounded in striking numbers. . . .

The authors also note a 2011 survey of 302 male college students. It found that 51.2 percent reported “at least one sexual victimization experience since age 16.”

About half of the victims reported a female perpetrator.

As well, “a 2014 study of 284 men and boys in college and high school found that 43 percent reported being sexually coerced, with the majority of coercive incidents resulting in unwanted sexual intercourse. Of them, 95 percent reported only female perpetrators. The authors defined sexual coercion broadly, including verbal pressure such as nagging and begging, which, the authors acknowledge, increases prevalence dramatically.”

And “a 2012 study using data from the U. S. Census Bureau’s nationally representative National Epidemiologic Survey on Alcohol and Related Conditions found in a sample of 43,000 adults little difference in the sex of self-reported sexual perpetrators. Of those who affirmed that they had ‘ever forced someone to have sex with you against their will,’ 43.6 percent were female and 56.4 percent were male.”

Finally, there is reason to fear that abuse by female perpetrators is under-reported.

The Insta-Wife has long believed this based on her clinical experience.

Meanwhile, if rape is something that people do, rather than something that men do, whole ideologies are in danger of collapse. I had a column on this phenomenon a couple of years ago.

KYLE SMITH HAS SOME 25TH ANNIVERSARY THOUGHTS: As a feminist film, ‘Thelma & Louise’ fails miserably.

Even on its own terms, as a bluntly obvious feminist parable, the movie is a self-contradictory failure. Its regrettably schematic screenplay (which writer Callie Khouri won an Oscar for) shouts its points in the manner of a freshperson term paper from an only intermittently coherent Womyn’s Studies major.

You may recall the movie as a date-rape revenge saga wrapped up in a freewheeling outlaw adventure, but really it’s a story of two idiotic hysterics who make a series of daft decisions that are nobody’s fault but their own. Stupidity and hot tempers, not entrenched sexism, are the causes of their problems. . . . It’s as if Khouri is trying to paint feminists as given to hysterical overreaction. Teachable moments get garbled — just days after learning that being alone with a strange man is not a great idea, Thelma picks up a hitchhiker, who turns out to be a criminal, simply because he’s Brad Pitt, suggesting the lesson for women is “Be careful of men you don’t know, except the cute ones.”

The movie works better if you just think of it as a misogynist tale about unbelievably ditzy women who lose what remains of their reason under pressure and suffer the ultimate punishment.

As a colleague said at the time, what really happens in the movie is that two women get out from under male supervision, immediately do a lot of stupid things, then commit suicide. And the only voice of sanity is the older white male cop (Harvey Keitel), whom they ignore.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! (CONT’D): Another pro athlete appears to have been falsely accused of rape.

The woman claimed that after she told Bromley that she wanted to stop their sexual activity, he got angry and tried to rape her, then hit her with his car.

The two had met on Instagram and decided to meet up at a hotel. Bromley told police that he found the woman naked on the hotel bed after he came out of the bathroom. She performed oral sex on him, stopped, and demanded $2,000. Bromley said he didn’t pay because he thought it was a date.

Police told the New York Post that after Bromley refused to pay, the woman continued engaging in sexual activity before requesting money again, at which point Bromley left. Surveillance videos showed the woman following Bromley out of the hotel, continuing to harass him before throwing herself onto the hood of his car.

The accuser also has a history of seeking payment from athletes she meets on Instagram, and of threatening celebrities for money. She had reportedly tried to extort money from actor Taye Diggs by threatening to release a sex tape of the two of them. Diggs reportedly paid the woman, but the accuser claims she didn’t extort him or receive money.

The accuser had said she was drunk and had gotten sick after performing a sex act on Bromley, and that he flipped out and attacked her after that. She told the Post that she was “really traumatized” by the encounter.

A police source told the New York Daily News that it appears as though Bromley stopped and left when the women asked him to do so, and that there were “significant discrepancies” in the story she told law enforcement.

“Her credibility is seriously being questioned,” the police source told the Daily News.

WHAT IF THE REFUGEES ARE NOT JUST IGNORANT SAVAGES?, Bookworm asks:

Here’s what I think is going on: The refugees are acting as they are, not because they see themselves as charity cases, but because they see themselves as conquerors. They know perfectly well that one doesn’t defecate in a pool in which people (especially children) are swimming. They’re doing it because they are performing the literal equivalent of the expression “I don’t give a shit about you.” They know you’re not supposed to rape women . . . that is, unless those women are the products of conquest, in which case raping them is one of Mohamed’s commandments.

It’s almost funny seeing Europeans trying politely to teach their conquerors how not to treat those whom they have conquered. I wonder how long it will take before the Europeans figure out that they’re no longer in the driver’s seat. And then I wonder whether they’ll be able or willing to mount a counter-strike, or whether the twelve-hundred year-long Islamic jihad against Europe will finally have succeeded.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: White Woman Accuses Black Man Of Rape After Bragging.

The two accused students, identified in the lawsuit as Justin Browning and Alphonso Baity, II, are both African-American. They were accused by a white woman, identified in the lawsuit only as M.K., after an encounter at a party.

Browning and Baity were expelled despite the fact that every witness interviewed corroborated the accused students’ story, and that witnesses came forward to say that M.K. bragged about the encounter as a consensual act. Not only were they expelled, but the expulsions came just two days after the accusation was filed, and campus procedures regarding sexual assault accusations were not followed. . . .

At some point M.K. returned to the bedroom with Browning and again engaged in sexual activity. Again, the lawsuit claims the acts were consensual and that M.K. initiated.

Throughout all of this, the roommates and friends heard sounds coming from the bedroom that indicated consensual sexual activity.

M.K. left in the morning and returned to her dorm, where she discussed the previous night with other women in the dorm, including the resident assistant. According to at least one of these women, M.K. bragged about the evening and her sexual activity with Browning and Baity. M.K. never suggested any sexual assault took place.

Around that same time, M.K. also told another of her friends about the sexual activity with Browning and Baity; again, she was bragging. She even interacted with Baity and his friends in the days following the encounter.

Yet 10 days later, M.K. would accuse Browning and Baity of sexual assault.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): Teaching assistant who groomed schoolboy jailed after suspended sentence deemed too lenient; Judges say Caroline Berriman, 30, should not have been spared jail after sleeping with the boy on 80 occasions over three to four months. “The boy, who believed he was in love and in a normal boyfriend/girlfriend relationship, eventually moved in with Berriman but when the situation deteriorated, he rang ChildLine and said he was thinking of taking his own life. . . . She knew her initial contact with him was entirely wrong but persisted and then enabled and allowed it to develop into a legally prohibited sexual relationship.” It seems as if courts are beginning to treat sex offenses by female offenders with at least some degree of seriousness.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! (CONT’D): Another high-profile rape accusation falls apart.

Chicago Blackhawks ice hockey star Patrick Kane will not face criminal charges over a rape accusation made against him earlier this year.

Prosecutors in the case cited “significant material inconsistencies” between what the accuser said and what other witnesses said.

“The totality of the credible evidence — the proof — does not sufficiently substantiate the complainant’s allegation that she was raped by Patrick Kane and this so-called ‘case’ is rife with reasonable doubt,” District Attorney Frank Sedita III said in a statement on Thursday.

The district attorney won’t even convene a grand jury to hear the evidence collected during a three-month investigation. Part of the reason the case will not go to the grand jury is that DNA evidence contradicted the woman’s allegation.

The woman claimed she was raped by Kane in his home this past summer, and while Kane’s DNA was found on the woman’s shoulders and in her fingernails, it was not found on her underwear or genitals. There was, however, DNA from other men found.

Sheesh.

I HOPE IT SPREADS TO AMERICA: A New Sexual Revolt Is Underway at British Universities; Could this be the start of an uprising?

George Lawlor, a student at Warwick University, started a firestorm when he wrote a piece for a student newspaper called The Tab, headlined “Why I Don’t Need Consent Classes.” Not only did he tell the “self-appointed teachers of consent” to “get off your fucking high horse”—even worse, in the eyes of the raunch-allergic feminists who staff Britain’s students’ unions, he posted a photo of himself holding a sign saying: “This is not what a rapist looks like.”

Cue global media outrage. Pretty much every liberal broadsheet in Christendom asked, “Well, what DOES a rapist look like?,” hinting that Lawlor, by virtue of the fact that he has XY chromosomes, does look like a rapist. A Guardian writer suggested every man in the world, including the Dalai Lama, should post photos of themselves holding a sign that says “This is what a rapist looks like.” Because, yep, any man might be a rapist. Maybe every woman in the world should post a pic of themselves with a sign saying, “This is what someone who commits infanticide looks like”? No, best not — the women who do that are a tiny minority, as are the men who rape.

A few days later, another Warwick student, Jack Hadfield, announced that he, too, would not be attending campus consent classes. We are witnessing “the demonisation of men,” he said, the promotion of the idea that “men are dangerous sex pests.”

Then came The Tab’s poll on consent classes. Sure, readers of The Tab, Britain’s spunkiest student newspaper, which often raises a very arched eyebrow at the buzzkilling shenanigans of student unions, might not be completely representative. Yet it’s striking that of the 4,440 people who voted in its poll, 2,708 said they were against consent classes, with 1,732 in favour. That’s 61 percent who don’t think they need to be told how to have sex.

The big question is: Why didn’t this happen earlier?

In a just society, the first administrators to roll out these policies would have been tarred and feathered.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Report: 1 in 5 campus rape reports are false.

It turns out the “one-in-five number” is correct, but it’s not the one-in-five the media are reporting. Harvard University released its sexual assault statistics as part of federal regulations, and it turns out 18.1 percent of reported rapes on campus are “unfounded,” defined by Harvard police as “any report of a crime that is found to be false or baseless.”

If this number is reported anywhere in the media that’s so eager to report every faulty survey purporting to show 20 percent of women are sexually assaulted in college, you can bet they will add in all the caveats they leave out in reporting incidences of sexual assault.

They’ll say it’s “heavily edited.”

The drama around the bag included the accuser’s lawyer saying that it had been left anonymously at the mother’s home, and then retracting that claim. The lawyer subsequently resigned after saying that he no longer believed the story spun by the accuser’s mother.”

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! Student charged over false sexual assault accusation.

A University of Arkansas student who claimed she was sexually assaulted will face felony charges for her false report, according to the Arkansas Traveler.

Police are charging junior Lindsey Sweetin with filing a false police report. Sweetin claimed she was groped by a stranger in a parking garage on Feb. 26. But witness testimony and video surveillance cast doubt on Sweetin’s claim and she eventually admitted to lying.

“Individuals need to be held accountable for their actions,” Capt. Gary Crain of the UA police department told the Traveler. “In this case, what was reported to the police did not happen, and therefore, just like anyone else who commits a crime, they have to be held responsible.”

This was the second false report of sexual assault at the university in the past year. Previously, Julia Garcia, another student, had claimed she was raped in a different UA parking garage. Again, video surveillance proved she was lying.

I’m glad they’re punishing these women, and reporting their names.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE (CONT’D): When Prosecutors Believe the Unbelievable: A man is finally freed, but that doesn’t mean the system worked.

Three years ago, one of the strangest criminal cases in recent memory began in Charlottesville, Virginia, where I live, when a young woman sent a series of text messages telling her boyfriend that a man had abducted her, followed by a series of texts, allegedly from her captor, taunting her boyfriend with threats of sexual violence. Her story was strange, and the case was fraught with complications from the get-go, but the accused ended up in prison long after the doubts outweighed the evidence.

This story is bizarre, but it’s not all that unusual: Prosecutors can prosecute even the weakest, most clearly flawed cases relentlessly, and innocent people can end up in jail.

This week, after two and a half years in prison, Mark Weiner saw his conviction vacated. It finally ended a saga in which Weiner was arrested, convicted, and sentenced to eight years in jail on charges of abducting a woman with the intent to sexually harm her. . . .

The Albemarle County prosecutor, who is elected to the post, is currently Commonwealth’s Attorney Denise Lunsford. As part of her prosecution strategy, Weiner’s trial lawyer later said, Lunsford “sought the advice of two respected detectives in the city and the county” to pinpoint where the alleged victim’s text messages had originated. Each cop concluded independently that the texts had been sent from near where Steiniger’s mother lived. Lunsford interviewed the first officer for the first time at the courthouse, just before he was scheduled to testify. He told the prosecutor he’d guess the calls came from Steiniger’s mother’s house, not the abandoned property.

Some prosecutors would call that sort of thing exculpatory information that must legally be turned over to the defense. Lunsford thanked the officer for stopping by and said she would no longer be needing his testimony after all. (This officer would later call the defense attorney and tell him what had transpired.) The second law enforcement officer offered up the same conclusion. He didn’t get to testify, either.

Railroading people on bogus rape charges seems to be a Charlottesville specialty.

UPDATE: “Isn’t Mark Weiner’s experience exactly what Obama seeks to impose on college campuses?” Yes. Believe the women!

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! (CONT’D): Jailed: Tube worker who called police to falsely claim she was raped outside east London nightclub at 5am. The judge told Comfort Yinusa she had “let down genuine rape victims.”

A Tube worker, who dialled 999 at 5am to falsely claim she had been raped in the street, was jailed for eight months at the Old Bailey today.

Comfort Yinusa, 23, accused two men of attacking her outside a club near Liverpool Street station.

Judge Peter Rook told her: “You have let down genuine rape victims, your actions led to a costly and unnecessary police investigation and two innocent men being put through the trauma of arrest and the procedures that follows.”

Yinusa had claimed she had left the Dollhouse club with the two men and made the allegation after phoning her boyfriend in distress and asking to be picked up.

Two police officers and an ambulance with two paramedics were sent to investigate and treat any injuries.

But detectives discovered CCTV footage in a nearby McDonald’s restaurant showed Yinusa and her two alleged attackers laughing together.

Phone records showed one of the men was combing streets of the City looking for his car when the alleged rape was said to have happened.

Police were able to track down the two men who spent six weeks each on police bail before suspicion was dropped.

More than £3,000 was wasted on forensic lines of inquiry before her lies could be proved and she was arrested in December 2013.

At first Yinusa pleaded not guilty to doing actions intended to pervert the course of justice but changed her plea before she was due to go on trial last month.

The Brits seem to be better at actually punishing false accusers.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Model’s rape claim falls apart after bogus pregnancy charge. DNA makes a difference.

The two chatted over champagne about a potential photo shoot and then went back to his condo in a nearby luxury high-rise.

About 45 minutes later, Riabenkova told a doorman she had been raped by the photographer and asked him to call 911, said his lawyer, Tom Kenniff.

Police arrested the lensman, and he spent a night behind bars. Prosecutors soon downgraded the charge to sexual misconduct because they found holes in her story and her rape kit tested inconclusive, Kenniff said.

Then, in January 2015, Riabenkova made a shocking claim — telling prosecutors she was impregnated during the alleged rape and wanted an abortion.

The DA’s Office told the clinic to preserve the biological material, and Kenniff immediately asked for a DNA test.

The results proved his client was not the father, and on May 15 the case was thrown out and sealed.

Riabenkova, 22, refused to talk to a Post reporter on Friday at her swanky Flatiron building, saying through a doorman that she was “sick.”

Well, that seems likely. I like it that the victim is thinking of suing her. He should.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! Most shocking was that this was the second time she had falsely accused a man of rape.’ It took a jury at Winchester Crown Court just an hour to clear her son when the case was heard in January. Even though the woman’s claims were entirely false, she is guaranteed anonymity by the law, unlike Hilary’s son.”

Because doubting her has political risks. Ruining a man’s life does not. Just ask Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY) who continues to smear a Columbia student as a rapist even though he was cleared by the university and police, and even though his accuser, Emma Sulkowicz, has become a campus joke.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! U. Minnesota Student Who Claimed Dorm Rape At Knifepoint Is Lying, Cops Say. But is she being punished? Nope:

Another University of Minnesota official, Katie Eichele of the Aurora Center, “a safe and confidential space” for victims of sexual assault, suggested that no one should judge the unidentified student who made the armed rape allegations police don’t believe.

“The victim-survivor is the most important person in all of this, and supporting what it is they’re going through and what they may want in the process,” Eichele told the newspaper.

Well, when you lie about being raped, you’re not a “victim/survivor.” You’re a perpetrator. But acknowledging that would harm the campus victim-industrial complex.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: U of A Student Arrested for Lying About Sexual Assault.

After the interview, police reviewed video footage from the Harmon Parking Garage during the time that Sweetin said the incident happened. Detectives did not find any men in the video matching the description Sweetin provided them. Detectives also spoke to potential witnesses who were in the garage at that time, and they told officers they did not hear or see anything out of the ordinary.

On March 11, Detective Josh Bowen interviewed Sweetin again at UAPD. Detective Bowen asked Sweetin if she was telling the truth about the incident, and Sweetin said no. When asked why she would lie, Sweetin said she did see a man that matched the description she gave on Dickson Street and he scared her, but that the man never followed her into the Harmon deck.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Donald Barber, Fired B.C. Teacher, Sues After Student’s False Rape Accusations.

A Vancouver Island teacher who was falsely accused of raping and torturing a student is seeking compensation after the girl’s claims were found to be based on a popular TV crime show.

Donald Barber was suspended in 2012 after the then-Grade 10 student came forward saying the veteran teacher had been sadistically assaulting her for years.

The girl reported being raped, tortured, and burned to the point of scarring, according to an arbitration decision last year. Diary entries describe her alleged encounters with Barber, including one where she said she was sold to a uniformed police officer for sex.

Barber was arrested, then suspended. But charges were never laid due to a lack of evidence.

The Qualicum school district hired lawyer Marli Rusen to look into the case. Her 2013 investigation supported the student’s allegations, and recommended that Barber be banned from the school district altogether. Soon after, Barber was fired.

The longtime teacher with a spotless record fought for his job. Ultimately, an arbitration hearing uncovered that all of the student’s claims were lifted from the TV show “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.” The girl testified that she had watched every episode of the drama at least three times, and some as many as 10 times.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Audio Recording Exonerates Uber Driver Falsely Accused Of Rape.

A Chicago Uber driver’s instinct to record his conversation with a woman he picked up for a ride in November has saved him from spending years behind bars.

Maxime Fohounhedo, a 30-year-old native of Benin, was released from a Cook County jail on Monday after spending the past four months there.

Fohounhedo was arrested in December after a 22-year-old woman accused him of sexually assaulting her at his apartment on Nov. 16. The woman claimed that she was passed out during her ride in Fouhounhedo’s car, but his secret recording provides evidence that she was awake and carrying on a conversation. After prosecutors verified the audio they consulted with the accuser, and she decided to drop charges.

“He had a gut feeling he needed to protect himself,” Shady Yassin, Fohounhedo’s attorney, told CBS Chicago of his client’s decision to record his fare.

She was a predator. He should sue her for costing him four months in jail, and her name should be public now. She’s not a victim of sexual violence, she’s a perpetrator.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Girl who cried rape after threesome with two soldiers has been jailed.

A girl who falsely accused two army soldiers of trying to rape her because she felt ashamed about sleeping with them both has been jailed.

Nicole Richess, 20, had a drunken threesome with the two servicemen at a friend’s house and then her own home at the end of a night out.

The following day her boyfriend, Alex Ganter, heard rumours she had been unfaithful and confronted her.

Richess ‘panicked’ and made up the false claim that the two innocent men, aged 23 and 24, had forced themselves on her because she was too ashamed to tell Mr Ganter she had cheated on him.

Mr Ganter, her partner of three years, made her go to the police to report the ‘attack’.

Richess even gave a ‘tearful’ account of the co-called crime to officers and ‘illicitly gained their empathy.’

Her ‘deceitful web of lies’ resulted in the arrest of the two soldiers, leaving them ‘distraught and petrified.’

However, officers began to realise Richess was lying when they gathered the accounts of the soldiers and her friends and she was charged with perverting the course of justice.

Funny, I’m constantly being told that women never lie about rape. And I like this:

Judge Jonathan Fuller QC said: “You made a determined and prolonged attempt to weave a picture of deceit to further your ends and you were prepared to make wholly false allegations of attempted rape against these innocent young men.

“The impact on these victims cannot be understated and false allegations of rape and attempted rape can have dreadful consequences.

“Every occasion of a proved false allegation has an insidious effect on public confidence, sometimes allowing doubts to creep into when one shouldn’t exist.

“Your offence has a corrosive effect on criminal justice.”

Lying about rape is a very serious offense, one that deserves serious punishment. But note that it’s still a man’s fault somehow:

In mitigation, Tony Ventham said Richess – who is seven-and-a-half months pregnant by her current partner – said she felt pressured in to reporting the false claims because her former boyfriend was ‘violent’ and ‘controlling’.

Richess had also taken cocaine for the first time that night.

Mr Ventham said: “She called the police because she was in a panic and because she’s stupid and immature.”

He added: “In December the following month she tried to commit suicide and had been struggling with depression ever since.”

Richess was told she would start her sentence in a young offenders’ institute.

Still, at least there’s some accountability.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Man Cleared of Rape Charge Speaks in NC9 Exclusive. “Bradshaw said it was tough for him to be away from those family members who supported him while he was incarcerated for eight months. His attorney Brandy Spurgin said it was a good feeling to hear the evidence exonerated her client. Both said it was important for both sides of the story to be heard.” 8 months in jail on a made up charge. Plus, problems for the believe the women argument:

“We did open records requests. There was a false report conviction where she had been convicted of filing a false rape report before. There was also a tampering with evidence conviction,” said Spurgin about the woman’s convictions in Florida. “When we got the reports and talked to officials in those jurisdictions, we realized that she left a trail of chaos everywhere she went.”

For Bradshaw, it’s now about focusing on his family and moving forward.

“I would like to explore possibilities into what I could do to make sure this doesn’t happen again to somebody,” said Bradshaw. “I feel a little nervous for anyone that honestly bumps into her, simply because this isn’t a one-time thing, history has shown.”

Bradshaw said that he is now applying for jobs to help support his family, but he won’t be going back into the bar-tending business.

His attorney said they will discuss the possibility of filing charges against his accuser. The accuser said Bradshaw was impersonating a Marine, but Bradshaw said he actually served in the U.S. Marine Corps for three years.

Given this history, charges probably should never have been brought.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! (CONT’D): UMSL says reported rape on campus did not happen.

The University of Missouri-St. Louis has determined that a rape reported on campus in December did not happen.

A student who reported she was raped last month has now changed her story, university spokesman Bob Samples said.

The university sent a message to students on Thursday informing them of the new development.

“Following a thorough investigation, which included the reporting party meeting with and informing the police investigator that the incident did not occur, the UMSL Police Department has determined that the incident (in a Dec. 18 warning to students) was unfounded,” the message says.

The student originally reported to police that on Dec. 17 she’d been forced into a car parked on West Drive and raped in the backseat by a man she didn’t know.

And yet, as I understand it, this never happens.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): Juveniles Sexually Abused by Staffers at Corrections Facilities: Scandal in Idaho Shines Light on Victimization of Young People by Staff.

When a local nurse’s son was sent to the juvenile corrections center here at age 15, she was upset, but relieved that he would be away from drugs and gangs. The single mother said that the “night he went in, I felt bad, but I could sleep because he was safe.”

But within months, the head of security at the state juvenile corrections center in Nampa struck up a sexual relationship with the teenager, according to police reports. Julie McCormick admitted to having sex with him three times in 2012 while he was incarcerated, the reports said.

Ms. McCormick, 29 years old at the time, told detectives that she fell in love with the boy nearly half her age. She pleaded guilty in 2013 to lewd conduct with the minor and was sentenced to five to 20 years in prison in 2014. A lawyer who represented Ms. McCormick declined to comment.

“You hear about the Boy Scouts, you hear about the Catholic Church—those kids can walk away from it,” said his mother. “My son couldn’t.”

The scandal is an instance of an issue plaguing juvenile facilities nationwide.

National inmate surveys show juveniles experience a rate of sexual victimization by staff that is more than three times that of adult prisoners. Nearly 10% of youth held in state juvenile facilities reported incidents of sexual victimization, with more than 80% of those incidents involving staff, according to a national survey of juvenile inmates published by the federal Bureau of Justice Statistics in 2013 that covered the preceding year. . . .

Staff at Nampa allegedly groomed inmates in the manner of child molesters, according to the legal claims.

One former inmate said in an interview that a nurse gave him perks, such as soda and candy, and flirted with him. That led to sex on several occasions in the medical clinic, he said. She gave him money, then threatened to turn him in for having contraband—the money—if he refused her advances, he said. He was 18 at the time and the nurse, who is accused of having sex with other juveniles at Nampa, was in her mid-30s.

“You’re an easy target,” said the college student, now 24, who didn’t want to be named. “You have to think, ‘Why wouldn’t they do this with some young guy in the street?’ ”

The former nurse, who is named in legal claims and no longer works for the center, couldn’t be reached for comment. Jeff Ray, a spokesman for the Idaho Department of Correction and Idaho Department of Juvenile Corrections, said, “We knew nothing of the allegations” at the time she left the job.

Perpetrators in these cases are often women. About 90% of youth who said they were victimized by staff in the federal survey were males reporting sexual activity with female staff.

Matriarchal privilege.

TEACH WOMEN MEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE! Student Fakes a Rape Threat to Advance Diversity Initiatives: The truth about the threat was revealed in a federal investigation.

A federal investigation revealed that a racist rape threat against a University of Chicago student activist was actually fake, written by the student’s friend to gain support for their cultural-sensitivity initiatives.

Freshman Derek Caquelin posted a threat against junior Vincente Perez on his own Facebook wall on November 18 — and then claimed a racist hacker must have done it. . . .

Perez had co-written a petition earlier in November demanding that the university address cultural-sensitivity issues after he saw students wearing Mexican Halloween costumes that had offended him. The petition’s demands included “a mandatory cross-cultural competency program” and faculty “diversification.”

Caquelin’s Facebook page makes it obvious that he is an activist for the same campus initiatives and causes as Perez. In fact, he often directly shares Perez’s own posts on cultural diversity issues.

The media spoke highly of Perez when the rape threat came out.

Of course they did. So what’s the punishment for doing something that made many other students feel unsafe?

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE: Guardian: 109 women prosecuted for false rape claims in five years, say campaigners.

Of course, the gist of the story is activists’ claim that punishing women for lying about rape is unfair to women!!! “But Prof Claire Ferguson, a forensic criminologist from the University of New England in New South Wales, Australia, said it was not the norm to prosecute women for false allegations and that only those in the most egregious cases were charged, often where the accused man had spent time in custody.” So how many more false claims were there?

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): Female Teachers: The Sex Offenders No One Suspects. “Women are given more lenient sentencing than men, says Shoop, who has served as a forensic expert in hundreds of sexual abuse cases in the U.S. ‘My experience has been that females get time served and probation, where men get 15 years for the same offence,’ he says. A 2012 University of Michigan study, ‘Estimating gender discrimination in federal criminal cases,’ found a gender divide in sentencing generally in the U.S.: men received 63 per cent longer sentences on average than women, and women were twice as likely to avoid incarceration if found guilty. Two decisions involving former Oregon high school teachers, found guilty of having sex with students earlier this year, bear this out. Denise Keesee, 39, received 30 days in jail and five years probation for two counts involving a 16-year-old male student. In another jurisdiction, 56-year-old Charles McLauchlin was sentenced to almost 10 years in prison for second-degree sexual abuse and online corruption of a minor involving a 16-year-old female student. . . . The trust accorded female teachers is precisely what allows them to offend.”

WHY UVA COULDN’T WIN:

I’ve spoken at length about the troubling impact that campus adjudication with limited due process can have on the lives of accused men. I’ve spoken less, however, about the other problem, which is how it can leave predators free to commit more rapes. Helping victims focus on their own healing may well be better for the victims; I’m not an expert, so I couldn’t say. But it’s probably worse for the future victims. Expelling a man may be a pretty big burden on him, but we’d really like to put an even bigger burden on people who gang-rape 18-year-old girls; we’d like to lock them up where they can’t get at any more 18-year-old girls. I’m at least open to arguments that a college disciplinary hearing is what we need to combat “non-consensual-kissing.” But it is ludicrously inadequate as either a punishment for, or a deterrent to, what allegedly happened in that fraternity house.

Do victims have a right to stay home and focus on themselves, while leaving the predators who did it at large to rape again? Do administrators have a right to focus on the victims, rather than the risk to the community? These are hard questions, and I’m not sure I have good answers. But I do worry that by bundling gang rape into the catch-all category of sexual assault, in the hopes of raising the offensiveness of groping women and otherwise forcing your unwanted attentions on their bodies, we are also reducing the seriousness with which we treat gang rape.

When a currency is inflated, it loses value. That applies to moral currency, too.

The woman claimed that a man assaulted her in a locker room, but police say no crime occurred on the TTU campus and no rape occurred at the Rec Center. The case will now be referred to the Lubbock County District Attorney and the Office of Student Conduct for review.”

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! Women are weak and troubled creatures, apparently. They need to be kept indoors except under the close supervision of a responsible male.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! The social narrative implies that she did nothing truly wrong in seducing male students even if she’s brought up on charges.”

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE: Mother-of-eight Diane Brimble tried to have sex with 10-year-old student in her house; Had his name tattooed on her chest in an infinity symbol.

The boy, who has Asperger’s Syndrome, believes Brimble has put a spell on him and won’t look at his parents. . . . Brimble had hugged the boy, who suffers from Aspergers, and asked if he wanted to have sex with her, but the boy pushed her hands away and told her that he was not old enough to have sex.

The teacher said ‘You are when you are at my house’, and kissed him on the cheek and told him that she loved him.

Sheesh.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): A followup from the comments to my earlier post today: 2nd Destrehan High School teacher accused of sexual misconduct with student arrested. “A second Destrehan High School teacher has been in arrested in connection with allegations of sexual misconduct with a student. Rachel Respess, 24, of Kenner turned herself over to authorities Wednesday around 10:30 a.m., according to her attorney, Jeffrey Smith. Authorities say she and another teacher had a sexual encounter with a 16-year-old student. Respess was booked on one count of carnal knowledge of a juvenile, one count of indecent behavior, and one count of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, Smith said.”

Remember, there are so few men in teaching because society is afraid they might be predators.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): Congo’s Forgotten Curse: Epidemic of Female-on-Female Rape. “Rape in conflict zones has long been the subject of news reports and academic study and large amounts of donor funding is channeled to organizations that respond to it. But rape specifically perpetrated by women has received less attention. Recent studies suggest the problem is more widespread than many experts previously believed. In 2010, Harvard academic Lynn Lawry and a team of researchers conducted a survey of human-rights abuses in over 1,000 households in conflict-ridden eastern Congo. It was the same year that Margot Wallstrom, the U.N. special representative on sexual violence in conflict, dubbed Congo ‘the rape capital of the world.’ Lawry’s study asked victims of sexual violence to specify their assailant’s gender. It found that 40% of the women — and 10% of the men — who said they were subjected to sexual violence were assaulted by a woman.”

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO RAPE! (CONT’D): Mother of 2 Arrested for Raping a Man at Gunpoint, Bail Set at $75,000.

Ciera Ross, a 25-year-old mother of two, was arrested and charged with raping a man in Chicago, according to reports.

Ross and a friend, who were driving on the North Side of Chicago, saw a man walking down the 400 block of North Kingsbury, according to Huffington Post.

Ross offered him a ride, which he accepted, before pulling out a revolver and ordering him to move to the back seat of the car. She then forced him to have sex with her companion in the back seat.

The man pleaded for the women to stop after they made him fondle the woman’s breasts and buttocks. The women, however, paid no heed and asked him to take off his clothes and the man complied before Ross’ friend began sexually assaulting him.

The women also took $200, credit cards and phone from the man, before he managed to escape in a taxi cab that passed by slowly, Assistant Cook County State’s Attorney Amanda Pillsbury revealed.

The victim apparently ran out of the car wearing only his shirt and the cab driver allowed him to use his cell phone to take a picture of Ross’ license plate and email it to himself.

The victim later identified Ross in a lineup, Pillsbury said.

TEACH WOMEN NOT TO LIE ABOUT RAPE:

A man suspected of raping a woman at knife point after hours on the El Molino High School campus was to be released from jail Thursday after prosecutors said they found evidence that may clear him of the assault.

Sheriff’s officials initially said a masked David J. Kocalis, 24, of Guerneville sneaked up behind the woman Aug. 30, held a knife to her and raped her near the Forestville school’s tennis courts.

He was arrested the next day on charges carrying a possible life sentence after the woman identified a prominent tattoo, and the car he was driving was captured on videotape.

But prosecutor Brian Staebell said Thursday investigators have since uncovered evidence that may point to his innocence. A judge allowed Kocalis, who had been held on $1.2 million bail, to be released on his own recognizance.

His lawyer, Evan Zelig, said a review of cellphone records showed Kocalis and the 18-year-old woman knew each other. Earlier in the day, she sent him a text message inviting Kocalis for sex, Zelig said.

Their tryst began inside his borrowed Porsche SUV but moved to a spot near the tennis courts because the car’s alarm kept going off, Zelig said.

After it was over, Kocalis drove the woman home, the lawyer said. She fabricated a story about being raped because she missed her curfew and Kocalis refused to lend her $20, Zelig said.

A possible life sentence because a woman didn’t get $20. Note that she tried to delete her texts. She was happy to let him face life in prison to get out of temporary inconvenience.

THE IMPORTANCE OF TEACHING WOMEN NOT TO RAPE:

When Lara Stemple, a researcher at UCLA looked at the latest National Crime Victimization Survey, she was shocked to see that men experienced rape and sexual assault almost as frequently as women, and that women were often the perpetrators. Once the definition of rape was expanded to include more than just penetration, it became clear that men and women were equally likely to be raped, and more importantly, equally likely to be rapists. Researchers from the University of Missouri got the same results, finding that “43% of high school boys and young college men reported they had an unwanted sexual experience and of those, 95% said a female acquaintance was the aggressor.”

Sexual assault on college campuses and how that is handled has been all over the news lately, with even the President taking time to address the issue. But almost without exception, all the cases given as examples involve women as victims and men as perpetrators. Yet the survey and the confirmation from independent researchers indicates that men are often the victims and women the perpetrators.

So yes, let’s teach men what sexual consent means and how to obtain it. But let’s teach women that, too, because there are apparently a lot of women who do not understand the concept very well. Let’s teach men that women can be assailants and that they are under no obligation to accept or remain silent about unwanted sexual aggression from women. If consent is indeed “sexy”, then it needs to be applied equally. Current campaigns to encourage enthusiastic consent almost always target men, which is why I find them so irritating. It’s not the consent part that annoys me, it’s the fact that the campaigns imply that only men need to be certain they have on-going, enthusiastic agreement to sexual activity. This plays into the stereotype that men are little more than animals, willing to have sex at all times, with any willing or unwilling partner. . . .

Given that men have no reproductive rights, and given that men will be arrested if they physically resist unwanted sexual aggression from women, it is even more vital that we begin educating men about consent and victimization. But there is no point educating men if we are not going to educate women at the same time. A popular poster campaign suggests that we need to teach men not to rape. Well, okay. As long as we teach women not to rape, too. All rape is bad. No matter who the victim is, no matter who the assailant is. It’s not okay.

Saying that makes you a misogynist, I’m pretty sure. But then again, a lot of women need to be taught not to rape, apparently.

MEN AND WOMEN AND COLLEGE: Okay, this is going to be shorter than I had planned, because I’m working on a major writing project, and I’ve got to be able to type full speed tomorrow. But here are some comments I’ve gotten in response to my earlier post about colleges being hostile environments to males, and that perhaps accounting for the newly-controversial gender imbalance in favor of women. A few correspondents simply denied that there’s any sort of P.C. or anti-male environment on campuses, a sort of flat-earthery that is readily refuted by a reference to Daphne Patai’s Heterophobia or any of a hundred examples of kangaroo-court sexual-harassment policies.

Or just read this lengthy post by Eduardo Goldstein, sharing firsthand experience of being falsely accused of sexual harassment. (“The written rules are stacked against men. If a female reports anything, the college has to believe her. Even if the person receiving the complaint (RA, etc.) knows the complaint is bullshit, they can’t say ‘you’re lying’ – they have to write it down and pass it on. Otherwise the university will have to deal with the charges of ignoring complaints, and no one wants that. ” Read the whole thing.) Who can seriously deny that this phenomenon exists? Not recent college graduate and InstaPundit reader Jennifer Fuller, who describes the kind of situation I alluded to. And we assume in civil-rights law generally that a “hostile environment” discourages people from seeking employment or education in hostile settings, so it seems a reasonable assumption here, too.

There were alternative explanations. Reader Brian Ledford was one of several who said that the increase in lucrative jobs not requiring a college degree, particularly in computer-related fields, may be a partial explanation:

Are you sure the disparity isn’t simply due to computer science type programs moving to technical schools? If your ideal job is IT related, you’re probably better off with a two year degree and two years of experience than a four year degree. The technical colleges will be more market oreinted as well, I’d imagine. And computers overwhelmingly attract men. Schools without engineering programs “suffer” the same gender inequity. As an example, UNC-Chapel Hill (my alma mater) has approximately the same gender breakdown that is being regarded as a crisis in your post. Why? No engineering school.

Reader John Kluge offered a different explanation:

I would be very curious to see what the gender breakdown is among whites and Asians in college versus blacks and Hispanics. Just a guess but I bet the ratio is pretty close to fifty fifty among whites and Asians and much more disproportionately female among blacks and Hispanics. Its an important statistic that was left out of the Washington Post article. Is the problem in colleges a problem with men in general or a problem with black and Hispanic men going to lousy schools, living in a lousy culture that doesn’t value education and consequently increasingly falling behind the rest of society? Its an important distinction and no one seems to be picking up.

Reader John Vecchione agrees, but says that men should just suck it up and be macho about it:

I agree that colleges and universities are hostile to the very idea of men and that the administrations do as much as possible to alienate them. The misinterpretation of Title IX has axed programs that kept many men only marginally interested in higher education in school. The attack on fraternities has been disastrous, as has the P.C. feminist onslaught. On the other hand, I can’t stand whining about this. Its unseemly.

Unseemly whining, John, is the key to power in today’s society. Eschew it at your peril.

Reader Andrew Colocotronis blames drugs:

I think it is a statistical fact that boys are diagnosed as ADD more than girls. My mother has mentioned numerous parent teacher conferences she attended were the teacher would unilaterally suggest to the parents that they look into Ritalin for their son. In some of the high schools where she was an administrator upwards of 30% of the students were labeled as ADD. Not surprising, the article you linked mentioned that boys are disproportionately likely to be in Special Ed programs. ADD is by its very name a disability that earns a child Special Ed status. Some parents actually want that stigma for their son or daughter because it guarantees extra school help for their child and special consideration during college admission. I do not mean to enter into the larger Ritalin debate, but to point out that an educational system that promotes labeling children as disabled probably lowers self-esteem and retards academic performance. Raising the self-esteem of girls and overcoming second class citizenship status are seen as important components in furthering female academic success. So why is the converse not also be true– lowering the self-esteem of boys and referring to many as disabled erodes male academic success.

Noah Millman sent a link to this long and thoughtful post on his own blog, from which I will take an unfairly brief excerpt:

But I wanted to touch on another assumption of Glenn’s (the blogosphere seems to be on a first-name basis with itself, so I guess I will be, too): that the insanity of contemporary sexual harrassment policy has somehow discriminated against men. The implicit notion is that the proper code of conduct in college is: let the partygoer beware. Boys will be boys, and if girls want to play with the boys they should be free to do so and shouldn’t go crying to the Administration (or their lawyers) if they wake up in the wrong bed with very little on. I strongly reject this premise.

Let me be clear: I am not suggesting that the folks who are angry about the biases in our current sexual code of conduct – and they are biased against men – are apologists for date rape. Indeed, they correctly assert that the radical feminist notion that all men are rapists shields the real rapists and thereby harms more women than it helps. Moreover, it gives power to precisely those women who are least responsible and provides the least protection to those women who are most likely to be truly victimized: the naive, the shy, the insecure.

Well, that’s pretty much my point — that and the thought that knowing that there are a lot of people on campus who say and think that all men are rapists and that all heterosexual sex is rape (as Catharine MacKinnon, Andrea Dworkin, and numerous acolytes have said) might discourage a few men from going to begin with.

Fritz Schranck sent a link to his post on the subject, too, which includes the following, along with much more:

It’s also unfortunately true that the College of Correction, or the prison system as it is commonly known, also experiences a gender gap going in the opposite direction, especially among the age cohorts commonly associated with attendance at universities.

Well, there are a lot of folks in prison, and the vast majority of them are young males, though I don’t know if it’s enough to account for the difference, and rather doubt that it is. I think that prisons and colleges tend not to draw from the same pool of individuals.

Reader Monica Roman blames Hollywood:

Today, I was running the reservoir at Central Park and thought I was being sexually harassed by a young man running behind me. He was making loud, pornographic statements about my anatomy and what he wanted to do to it. When I turned around to look at him, I realized that he was merely singing along to the song being played by his CD player! Perhaps the thug culture perpetuated by the big recording companies is discouraging males of all races from pursuing the disciplined behavior required to complete college (unless you happen to be a star athlete and are not required to attend classes in order to receive your diploma).

Well, luckily you won’t find any of that star-athlete stuff going on at the University of Tennessee, where we prize academics over athletics at all times. . . .

Carl Janiski, meanwhile, emails me a link to a blog post that takes the radical position that I’m right, but that it’s a good thing:

He’s entirely right. Colleges have become more hostile to men, but I wonder how much of that is a bad thing. Perhaps the modern trend in higher education has become an effort to root out and refine some of that male hostility and agressiveness, traits which are far less adaptive in our sophisticated, twenty-first century civilization than they were in the environment of our evolutionary adaptation. The recent shifts in graduation could simply reflect this modern emphasis.

More broadly, it does seem to be a trend for men to become more like women and vice versa. I’ve heard women refered to as the “civilizing gender” for their greater natural endowment of social skills. Much of the effort of feminism in the past thirty years has been directed towards making women more like men in the equally important areas of assertiveness and individual expression. Men and traditional maleness are now taking a hit in the name of further progress away from our animal natures.

My biggest regret is that the process has to be so hard on the individual men who will suffer the shame traditionally associated with failure at endeavors such as college. I’d be most interested in figuring out how we can “evolve ourselves” without so much trampling on the most unfit and least adapted — which, after all, is the rule of the game as written by mother nature, not by us.

Being a guy who didn’t play sports (unless you count karate and the rifle team, which you shouldn’t) and who did well in school, I should approve of this social-Darwinist approach, but I have to note that it’s an approach that’s rather at odds with the one generally taken by civil rights law. And that was my original point: a shortage in any other group generates a lot of “what’s wrong with us?” soul-searching at universities. This generated mostly a “what’s wrong with them?” reaction.

Lots of interesting stuff. That’s part of the fun of having a blog, especially one that gets a lot of email. Post one paragraph of commentary, and get all this back! I love the Internet.

UPDATE: Reader Joe Davidson writes:

I think that the problem starts in kindergarden. Every time a student (almost always a boy) is disciplined for “shooting” someone with his index finger, every time a game of dodge ball or tag is stopped because it is not “nice”, all the boys involved or witnessing this are turned off on education.

We have made boyhood a medical condition to be cured for the middle class students, and a criminal problem to be punished for the lower classes. School mischief has become criminalized.

Is it any wonder that boys are turned off?
