ANN ALTHOUSE IS liveblogging Obama’s speech. Stephen Green is drunkblogging.

Speech excerpts here.

UPDATE: Here’s the full text of the speech.

ANOTHER UPDATE: Scariest moment of the night? This image. Is this what Obama sees? Give him bonus points for staying cool.

MORE: Jindal’s reply? I’d say so-so. Ann Althouse says: “Jindal is nicely upbeat and confidence-inspiring.” I thought he was adequate but not great. Audio problems didn’t help. Also, work out some, Bobby. Obama has opened space up for skinny guys with big ears, but . . . .

MORE STILL: Various readers object to this line of Obama’s: “And I believe the nation that invented the automobile cannot walk away from it.”

But, of course, Karl Benz wasn’t American. On the other hand, Henry Ford pretty much invented the modern automobile, so I’ll give him a semi-pass on that one. And did America invent solar power?

STILL MORE: Luntz’s focus group liked Jindal more than I did, or Althouse did.

Meanwhile, Mitch McConnell in the after-speech spin points out that in the first month of Obama’s administration Congress has spent more money than it spent on Iraq, Afghanistan, and Katrina relief over the past seven years.

Also, “Obama mentioned freedom once.”

Plus, a bad review for Jindal.

STILL MORE: Various readers think that Hillary and Geithner, in particular, don’t look particularly hopeful here. That’s for sure. Is it that they know something we don’t, or has it just been a long month?
