The police at LAX were on the lookout for a man dressed as a commercial pilot who disappeared on the jetway of a JetBlue flight bound for New York.

The incident happened about 6 a.m. in the bridge between Gate 31B at LAX’s Terminal 3 and a JetBlue aircraft preparing to take off to JFK airport in New York, airport officials said.

According to an LAX police officer, the plane was ready to go with baggage loaded when an employee noticed a man dressed in a pilot’s uniform loitering around the boarding area.

The two exchanged pleasantries, but nothing memorable, Pedregon said. The uniformed person, who was not authorized to be there, was last seen in that area between the terminal and the aircraft, he said.

“We don’t know who he was. We’re looking to see. He could be an employee that was mistaken,” LAX police Officer Rob Pedregon said.

The plane was towed to a remote part of the airport for safety reasons and the LAPD bomb squad checked it out for suspicious items. The luggage was also rechecked.

LAX officials said the plane was cleared for takeoff at 10:05 a.m. PT.
