Moves Like Jagger? Bloomberg Crowd Boogies in Cringe Dance...Or Does It?
One of the best parts of covering the election of 2020 is getting to bring to you the cringiest moments on the campaign trail and Michael Bloomberg's supporters have just grabbed first place. Watch them "dance" to teeny-bopper music at a recent rally.
I give this a ten out of ten on the cringe scale. Perhaps the best part is the guy on the microphone droning "BLOOMBERG...BLOOMBERG" in a monotone voice that sounds like some kind of satanic chant.
But is it real? It turns out that the comedic timing of all this is too good to be true. The Bloomberg campaign responded on twitter.
Ciarelli quickly went from Bloomberg fan to #DropOutBloomberg and is engaged in a public parody battle with the campaign for "firing" him. Ciarelli has pulled one of the greatest gags of this campaign because it was so believable.
Have you seen the Mayor Pete dance?
Even though major outlets have found out the gag, Ciarelli isn't giving it up. His Twitter feed is hysterical. His latest argument is a fake email from Bloomberg staff authorizing him to hire "50 to 60 actors to pose as supporters doing the #MovesLikeBloomberg dance you choreographed." The spoof email goes on to take away his gas stipend "as part of the all-around crunch that's been happening."
2019 has become the year parody became impossible to do. When people are actually running around making up cringy dances for candidates, there's no way we're going to be able to tell which ones are real and which ones aren't. Some on Twitter refuse to accept that this is a joke.
Personally, I'm thrilled to have something other to report on than impeachapalooza. Fake or not, I'm laughing.
