In the campaign for the 2020 presidential elections, socialist Senator Bernie Sanders has joined forces with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and her fellow members of the so-called “Squad.” This partnership between Sen. Sanders and AOC is becoming closer, it seems, by the day.  Just watch this video the senator from Vermont shared with his Twitter followers:

In the video, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez clearly describes the future Democratic Party she envisions. “It’s time that we become the party of FDR again,” AOC says, referring to the war-time American president who locked up thousands of innocent Japanese Americans only because of their ethnic heritage.

“It’s time for us to become the party of the Civil Rights Act again,” she added, without explaining that the civil rights movement is dead because it accomplished its aims. To become the party of the Civil Rights Act implies that America is still confronted with the same issues. Of course, the Civil Rights Act was passed in 1964, a full twenty years after FDR’s death. So there’s that too.

“It’s time for us to become the party that fights for queer liberation again, the anti-war party, a party that establishes peace and prosperity.”

Now, all of that is rather rich. She connects all those issues to FDR, a guy who literally did nothing to help “queer liberation,” and who (rightfully!) dragged his fellow countrymen into a new world war. You can certainly say that FDR helped establish peace and prosperity, but he only did so after declaring war on the Axis (Germany, Italy, and Japan). Yes, yes, Harry Truman finished the job. True. But without FDR, America’s involvement in the Second World War may have been much more limited than it was.

And that’s not all—other Democrats were also quite warlike. Woodrow Wilson (World War I). FDR (World War II). JFK (Bay of Pigs). LBJ (Vietnam). Bill Clinton (Yugoslavia). Barack H. Obama (Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Libya, Yemen, Somalia and Pakistan).

The image of Democrats as being anti-war is nothing more than a myth. The Democratic Party has never been anti-war.

In other words, although AOC and Bernie Sanders say they want to steer their party “back” to what it once was, they actually aim for a full-scale revolution. The Democratic Party they describe has never existed.
