LOL: Poll Shows Hillary Clinton Is the Democratic Frontrunner
Just what kind of trouble are Democrats in? A lot, it seems. Their top choice for president is one that isn't even a candidate. Worse yet, that choice is Hillary Rodham Clinton.
Mrs. Clinton drew 21%, followed by former Vice President Joseph R. Biden with 20%, when registered Democrats were asked whom they would support for the 2020 party presidential nod if she and former Secretary of State John Kerry were added to the mix.
Placing third in the hypothetical race was Vermont Sen. Bernard Sanders at 12%, followed by Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 9% and ex-New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg at 7%.
It's never a good thing when a candidate who isn't running is outpolling those who are. It tells you that the party isn't terribly invested in any of the candidates, not even the frontrunners. Many speculate that Hillary is positioning herself to run again. Dick Morris, a former adviser to Bill Clinton, believes if the conditions are right, she will. “My feeling is that she wants to,” Morris said last month. “But she’s hesitant because she realizes the timing is bad. She’s got to wait until Biden drops out because he’s obviously next in line for it, and if he goes away, there’s an opening for her.”
I still say that Hillary won't run, but the fact she is polling better than the declared candidates is horrible news for the party. In 2008, the party was divided between Hillary and Obama, and easily coalesced behind the latter. Biden's frontrunner status has less to do with him and more to do with Obama nostalgia. Without a genuine, forward-looking candidate who inspires the base, the party is going nowhere. And if they think Hillary is going to be their savior, even that is less to do with her (the most unlikeable candidate in history) and more to do with Democrat voters' desire for a rematch. Would Hillary want to risk losing to Trump twice? Don't count on it.
