Trump Calls Elizabeth Warren Racist While Scott Brown Demands She Take DNA Test

Former Sen. Scott Brown (R-Mass.), who was ousted from his seat in 2012 by Elizabeth Warren, was rolled out by the Republican National Committee on Monday to denounce the senator’s “very serious character flaws” as Warren debuted on the campaign trail with Hillary Clinton.

Donald Trump later called Warren a “racist” in a phone interview with NBC.

Warren appeared with Clinton at a rally in Cincinnati in which she went after the candidate who calls her “goofy” on Twitter: “Now, Donald Trump says — Donald Trump says he will make America great again. It is right there — no, it’s stamped on the front of his goofy hat,” she said. “You want to see goofy? Look at him in that hat.”

“But when — when Donald Trump says great, I ask great for who, exactly? Yeah. For millions of kids struggling to pay for an education? For millions of seniors barely surviving on Social Security? For families that don’t fly to Scotland to play golf?” she continued. “When Donald Trump says he will make America great, he says make it even greater for rich guys just like Donald Trump. Great for the guys who don’t care how much they’ve already squeezed from everyone else; great for the guys who always want more. Because that is who Donald Trump is, the guy who wants it all for himself — and watch out. Because he will crush you into the dirt to get whatever he wants. That is who he is.”

Warren added that Trump is “a small, insecure money grubber who fights for no one but himself” and a “nasty man who will never become president of the United States.”

Trump fired back first on Twitter: “Crooked Hillary is wheeling out one of the least productive senators in the U.S. Senate, goofy Elizabeth Warren, who lied on heritage.”

He told NBC that she “made up her heritage, which I think is racist. I think she’s a racist, actually because what she did was very racist.”

“She used the fact that she was Native American to advance her career. Elizabeth Warren is a total fraud. I know it. Other people who work with her know it. Elizabeth Warren is a total fraud,” Trump said.

Calling her “Pocahontas” again, Trump dismissed a question on whether he should tone it down for the general election. “I do what I do. I’ve listened to this for a long time – at the beginning of the primaries, ‘He should do this, he should do that.’ I won in a landslide,” he said.

The charge around whether or not Warren has Native American heritage and whether or not she used that for career advantage goes back to Brown’s 2012 campaign with Warren.

Brown, who brushed off questions about whether he was being vetted for VP by Trump, told reporters on the RNC call that Warren “has no Native American background except for what her family told her.”

“The easy answer on that as you all know, is that Harvard and Penn can release the records, she can authorize the release of those records, she can take a DNA test, she can release the records herself, there’s never been any effort. And that’s the problem with not only Secretary Clinton but Elizabeth Warren, is that there is two sets of rules, there’s one for them and one for everybody else. Not only on the server and those issues obviously and the accountability issues, but also on this, I think character issue as well,” Brown said. “…That took away someone who truly was Native American and gave that opportunity to someone who’s not and that’s just not right, it’s a form of reverse racism quite frankly.”
