Wow: CNN Anchor Can't Remember any Gun Attacks on US Military Installations
CNN's Carol Costello had a bad time of things today. After news broke that a gunman had opened fire at the US Navy Yard, Costello asked producer Brian Todd on the air if he could ever recall another instance of a gunman opening fire on a US military installation.
A notorious case of such a thing just wrapped up in Texas a few weeks ago, when Nidal Hasan was convicted in the 2009 Fort Hood massacre and given the death penalty.
Costello apparently didn't remember that. Or the fact that the Obama administration calls that mass killing "workplace violence."
“I used to work in Washington, live in Washington. This seems so unusual to me that a gunman could create this kind of havoc at a U.S. military facility,” Costello asked her producer, Brian Todd. “Have you ever heard of this happening before, Brian?”
“I was just saying that this is so unusual, because this is such a heavily-secured military facility. I’ve worked in Washington for many years, I’ve never heard of such a thing happening,” she asked.
Todd had to remind Costello, on the air, of the Fort Hood massacre.
Today's attack isn't even the first attack at the US Navy Yard. Scott McNair writes at DC Crime Stories that terrorists bombed the facility twice during the 1980s. The second of those bombings was done by left wing terrorists to protest US policies in Central America and the Caribbean.
