WI: Democrat endorses Senate vote, Assembly 'unsafe' for members
Not just any Democrat: The Democrat who was defeated by Gov. Scott Walker last fall. Tom Barrett, the Democratic nominee for Wisconsin governor in 2012, made the comments on the Charlie Sykes radio show.
BARRETT: You could vote on those without those missing senators. You could vote on those tomorrow morning. You don’t need 20 senators to vote on those changes to the collective bargaining. Again, if someone really wanted to end this standoff, the way you would end it is simply have a separate vote.
SYKES: Would you favor that?
BARRETT: I would certainly favor that.
With protesters storming the capitol and police having to drag them out, the WI Assembly speaker has told members to stay away because the building isn't safe for them. Let that sink in a second. A state assembly isn't safe for the elected representatives to do their job. Does it sound like some bullying is going on? I don't use this word often at all, but what's happening in Wisconsin is on the verge of becoming un-American. You don't storm buildings to shut down state governments in order to prevent votes that you expect won't go your way. You just don't. Unless, that is, you're a union member or a Democrat.
