Wendy Davis Abandons Texas for Chicago, Fundraises with a Socialist
State Sen. Wendy Davis wants to be governor of Texas. But the Democrat keeps turning up giving speeches and raising money outside the state, mostly in blue states whose values have little in common with Texas.
This week, Wendy Davis is in Chicago, Illinois. Davis is a featured guest at a fundraiser for Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowsky.
Rep. Jan Schakowsky D-Ill. throws her biggest fundraising event of the year on Monday, the 2014 edition of her annual "Ultimate Women's Power Lunch," which usually draws a few thousand-- a Democratic activist crowd of mostly women who dig into their pockbooks to write checks for political candidates and causes. The featured guests this year are Lizz Winstead, co-creator of the Daily Show, Gov. Pat Quinn and Texas Democratic governor hopeful Wendy Davis.
Davis was in Chicago on Sunday for a fund-raiser that directly benefited her campaign warchest. Schakowsky's event is at the Hilton Chicago, 720 S. Michigan Ave.
Rep. Schakowsky is a far-left Democrat. Very far left. Stanley Kurtz looked into her background for National Review.
While researching my forthcoming book, Radical-in-Chief: Barack Obama and the Untold Story of American Socialism, I came across documentary evidence showing that, at the start of her political career, Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) was a member of the Democratic Socialists of America.
Back in the late 1980′s, Schakowsky was an influential official in the Midwest Academy network, a group I have a lot to say about in my book. In that era, the Midwest Academy was treated by the press as a bulwark of Democratic Party liberalism–a counterweight of sorts to the more centrist Democratic Leadership Council. In 1987, all six official or prospective Democratic presidential candidates addressed the Midwest Academy’s annual retreat, seeking support. It would have seemed a wild exaggeration at the time to call the Midwest Academy socialist. Yet as I document in detail in Radical-in-Chief, the Midwest Academy’s leadership, including Jan Schakowsky, really was socialist. Precisely in order to retain their growing influence within the Democratic Party, the Midwest Academy’s leaders kept the full extent of their leftism hidden.
The Democrat Socialists of America is the largest collection of hard core socialists in the United States. Schakowsky is one of them.
Schakowsky is on the record holding several far left views that the majority of Texans will find extreme, including support for banning handguns and for creating a single-payer -- government-run -- healthcare system. Schakowsky also believes and has put herself on record saying that Americans "'don't deserve to keep all' of your money" that you earn, as leftists like Shackowsky believe they can spend it more wisely than you can.
Wendy Davis is fundraising and making alliances with the likes of socialist Jan Schakowsky this week.
Did she think Texans wouldn't find out?
