Washington Post's Romney Exposee Falls Apart (Update: Airbrushing Alert)
The Washington Post's Jason Horowitz has even more explaining to do now.
Betsy Lauber, one of John Lauber’s three sisters, spoke with ABC News Tuesday night regarding the accuracy of the story.
“The family of John Lauber is releasing a statement saying the portrayal of John is factually incorrect and we are aggrieved that he would be used to further a political agenda. There will be no more comments from the family,” she said.
“Even if it did happen, John probably wouldn’t have said anything,” Christine Lauber said.
She added she and her sisters will likely put out a statement later via a family attorney.
“If he were still alive today, he would be furious [about the story],” she said with tears in her eyes.
The hit job continues to collapse.
Thursday we learned that one of the story's "witnesses" wasn't present, and though the story says he has long been bothered by the incident, he had never heard of the incident until the Post told him about it.
Is Jason Horowitz's story even true? Did he out a man who cannot defend himself now, and would have chosen not to have this story out there? The Washington Post owes readers some answers.
Update: Ed Morrissey wonders whether a legal case against the Post might be in the offing.
Update: Now the Post is airbrushing Horowitz's story without publicly acknowledging it.
